Are the tuners that Fender calls the 'original vintage' tuners actually Gotohs? Or are these the Ping tuners?

'Original Vintage' tuners. Gotoh?Swoop July 17th, 2012, 05:16 PM Are the tuners that Fender calls the 'original vintage' tuners actually Gotohs? Anything below that level gets Pings. Swoop July 17th, 2012, 10:05 PM Fender puts Gotohs on USRIs on up through CS models. Anything below that level gets Pings. I'm aware of that. But are the ones that the US reissues use the 'original vintage' tuners? I ask because an ebay seller is selling some 'original vintage' tuners. They've been aged/relic'd, and I'm after some aged tuners for a project. But I also want Gotohs, so I want to know whether 'original vintage' is what Fender uses to refer to their Gotoh tuners. KokoTele July 17th, 2012, 10:22 PM Fender uses "original vintage" to refer to both, I believe. The Gotohs are under $40 new from authorized dealers. Is the ebay deal so much cheaper that you want to hassle with it? Swoop July 17th, 2012, 11:02 PM It's not that it's a cheap deal, it's just that they're aged, which is what I am after for my project. It matters not, anyway. I've just found someone more local who sells aged Gotohs. boris bubbanov July 18th, 2012, 09:37 AM Fender puts Gotohs on USRIs on up through CS models. Anything below that level gets Pings. Yeah. Although, the Highway Texas Tele was "below" the AVs and it got Gotoh splits also. And, the MIM Jimmie Vaughan Strat gets the Gotohs and the MIM Classic Player '50s gets the locking version of the Gotoh vintage style machines. I could be mistaken, but I seem to recall the MIM Muddy Waters had Gotohs on it as well. But sadly, like the Texas Tele, it is gone now. Rob DiStefano July 18th, 2012, 09:42 AM fender uses whatever's on hand or whatever they've acquire in mass quantites for cheap. all that matters is that the tuners are a good ratio, little or no "gear lash", smooth turning, well built, good materials. for me, that sez "gotoh". ymmv. clayfeat July 18th, 2012, 03:22 PM How does one pronounce "Gotoh?" Been wondering that for years.... glen smith July 18th, 2012, 03:39 PM Not sure I am right but I pronounce it Go-Tow. clayfeat July 18th, 2012, 04:26 PM Not got-oh? Triton Thrasher July 18th, 2012, 04:47 PM Looks like "go toe." Triton Thrasher July 18th, 2012, 04:47 PM Or "goat oh!"
