Issue with Newly Installed Bridge Humbucker in a Reverend Buckshot...

I need some help.

I decided to put a noisless pick up in the bridge of my Reverend Buckshot to replace the standard tele style single coil. I purchased the GFS Lil' Puncher 10K because it got great reviews and it is affordable.

I dropped it off at a local Guitar Shop to have the pick up swap done. I picked the guitar up yesterday, and last night got a chance to play it. The new bridge pup sounds great, as does the original neck rev-tron humbucker. The issue is the middle position... There is a significant drop in volume, and the tone is thin and quacky... Do you think they wired the new pup out of phase with the neck? That is the only thing I can think that would cause such an issue. Any other ideas?

Please help!

That's what it sounds like. Your description is the classic 'out of phase' sound.

Yup, a very common error by the installer -- he probably went by the color code of the leads, which can vary between manufacturers and thereby often misleads techs into wiring a new pickup in reverse electrical polarity to the existing pickup.

Could easily happen if the tech wasn't given the wiring colour codes which should have come with the pickups.

The problem is that a lot of these guys wire them or whatever and don't test drive them afterwards. Had a similar problem last year.

Sounds out of phase or maybe the neck pickup is on it's way out - suggest you find the wiring colour codes & verify the connections on the bridge p/u are soldered to the right places.

Inverse the leads, or add a miniswitch to do so and you'll have a great dry rhythm position added !

I took the guitar back to the tech yesterday. He played it and also noticed the issue. He said he followed the wiring diagram, but the stock rev-tron humbucker probably had a different polarity than the new bridge pup. He said it would be fixed today and that I could get it from him after work tonight. So - all in all - it wasnt a big deal, just an extra trip to the guitar shop which is a little out of the way.

Thanks for all the help!

The Buckshot is fully functional and sounds better than ever - WITHOUT ANY SINGLE COIL NOISE!
