Cassady July 16th, 2012, 10:12 PM This had been on craiglist for a while and when the asking price dropped from $350 to $250, I bought it. I have the same guitar (a T-160) with mahogany back and sides and it's terrific.
It had horrible strings on it and was very dirty when I bought it, but after a fret dress, set up and general clean up it's a winner.
It's all solid wood, Engelmann spruce top, rosewood back and sides and a mahogany neck. It also came with an extremely nice case.
Either this, or my T-160, will become my camping guitar.

BB July 17th, 2012, 12:07 AM Congrats! That is a great looking guitar. I've never had the pleasure of playing one, but have read nothing but good things about them.....a lot of guitar for the money. Almost bought a used one online, but it was long gone by the time I finally made up my mind. Hope it serves you well for a long time!
Westreverb July 17th, 2012, 04:05 AM Great guitar, congrats
I have had mine for over a year and I love it so much it's become my #1
Can't say enough good stuff about my Silvercreek
I was thinking that I just got a good one but I've heard a few people with contact to one are also extremely happy
Awesome even sound
Huge volume
Joy to play
My much more expensive guitars are not getting a look for a while now and when I do get them out for a play to make sure the honeymoon days are done, I quickly go back to the Silvercreek
I only paid $245 and I still can't believe it
Hope you enjoy yours as much as I love mine
tap4154 July 19th, 2012, 12:22 AM Congrats! Those are great guitars. I still love mine. Looks like you got one of the early ones like mine, The second generation were orange, with no PG. Does it have a V neck like the Martin EC model? Mine does, but I think the later orange ones have a D neck.
GFS/Wilkinson makes some great open-back tuners for cheap that will drop into those bushings. They only weak spot on the T-170 IMO is the tuners.

Yes, it has a V neck. I don't really find the tuners to be an issue.
They are great guitars: I did a side-by-side comparison of my T-160 with a Martin 000-15S that I was thinking about buying and preferred my Silver Creek. Both of mine have been in dire need of a good set up, though. Once they have the nut cut properly, the saddle lowered, a truss rod adjustment and a fret dress, they are really first rate guitars.

I've often played the Martin 000-28EC in the local GC then come home and played my T-170, and I honestly prefer the sound of the T-170. IMO it's basically a clone of the EC model, and while it may seem incredible to compare a $3K+ instrument to one I paid $200 for, to me they feel and play virtually the same. I'd been considering getting the Martin EC model for years, but have no need or desire to since getting the SC.
If your stock tuners work, no reason to change... but mine were hard to keep in tune, and even hard to get in tune. Once I removed the stock tuners I found all of the posts to be very floppy, with a lot of slop in the gears. Tuning has been super stable with the Wilkinsons, and I love open back tuners anyway. Very tight gearing, and very stable posts, plus they fit the stock bushings. Only the upper mounting hole is a bit higher, so I just used an awl to make a new hole.

Fantastic guitars, which as you said may need a little bit of TLC to get them setup just right (mine came with a loose truss), but for the price, it's an insane deal.
