BiggerJohn July 16th, 2012, 02:34 PM Guys, been looking through the catalogs and see a number of new stomp tuners which tune all 6 strings at once. Versus the older one at a time type.
If you were going to buy a new stomp tuner today, what would it be?
I'm finding the ones that clip onto the headstock just are not accurate enough, my guitar sounds slightly out of tune on the B or G strings when finished with those.
Thanks!!!!
Lunchie July 16th, 2012, 02:37 PM I bought a used boss TU-2 middle of last week, havent tried it yet but they are pretty popular. Also rhe polytune from TC Electronics seem to be top notch.
waparker4 July 16th, 2012, 02:38 PM I like the TU-3. I'm always in tune with it.
How can you tune all the strings at once? I can only turn one tuner peg at a time.
hybridrocknroll July 16th, 2012, 02:38 PM I switched from a Boss TU-2 after 7 years of use to a TC Electronics Polytune. Absolutely love it. Very accurate and smaller than the TU-2.

I yanked it off their website, but its all you need to know. This is the greatest and most accurate tuner I have ever used. In fact, its the only tuner I have ever been excited about.

dalandan July 16th, 2012, 02:52 PM I love the Polytune mini.

BluesHound July 16th, 2012, 03:41 PM Boss.......
markxander July 16th, 2012, 03:41 PM Turbo Tuner is by far the most accurate, and also very small which is great for tight pedalboards.
That said, I sold mine and got a TU-3; it isn't nearly as accurate for setting intonation and stuff like that, but for quickly tuning up between songs I don't think there's an easier-to-read pedal tuner. I had and liked the Pitchblack, too, but I'm happiest with the Boss tuner. I also happen to like the buffer, because all of my other pedals are true bypass.
fezz parka July 16th, 2012, 03:42 PM I use the Boss. Does what I need it to do.
Ed Boyd July 16th, 2012, 03:44 PM In the summer do you often play outdoors in daylight conditions? And how accurate do you want it?

It's gotta sound in-tune.
waparker4 July 16th, 2012, 04:06 PM The brightness of the display is a feature to pay attention to if you play gigs outside
metulmykul July 16th, 2012, 04:50 PM The Arion 8500 has never failed me.
tjalla July 16th, 2012, 04:52 PM The Mini version is faster and more accurate than the Polytune. My favourite.
Brian blaut July 16th, 2012, 05:02 PM I bought the polytune (full sized )for the poly thing specifically. I don't love it and I don't hate it. It's inconsistant I find. It seems to work flawless at home, but with the band, when I need it the most, it starts having trouble sensing which string I'm playing in chromatic mode (mostly with the low E). I even dampen all the other strings to cut out any sympathetic tones and it still gets confused. Sometimes I'll strum in poly mode and it'll jump back and forth between poly mode and regular mode as if it can't really tell if I'm playing all the strings, or just one.
Than at other times, it works fine. I bought it specifically for the poly mode though. Too many times on stage I hear someone is just slightly out of tune (just enough to sense things are 'off') and I start testing all my strings inbetween songs, not knowing if it's me, someone else, or just in my head. I thought the ability to quickly strum and see everything at once would be fantastic. And it is, but sometimes it doesn't work so well in my hands.
I also quite often find a slight discrepancy between the two modes. Poly mode will often show my low E off a good bit, but in Chromatic mode, the E is in tune. -If I'm going to have to check it in chromatic mode anyways, the poly mode isn't really saving me any steps.

I dig my sonic reseach strobe tuner pedal.
I also like the tuner that's built in to the Zoom G3.
Ed Boyd July 16th, 2012, 05:56 PM I use a version of one of these.

The LCD displays does not wash out like my partner's Boss in bright outdoor situations and the the amber backlight makes it easy to read in dark situations and it is more accurate than the Boss. But I believe some people find the tuner hard to user due to the higher degree of accuracy.
Radspin July 16th, 2012, 06:35 PM I love the accuracy and ease of use of my Pitchblack--but it's absolutely impossible to read in bright sunlight. Wish I could say otherwise. I wind up using a Snark on outdoor gigs and it works well.

Pitchblack -- absolutely impossible to read in bright sunlight.
You can read the SSII in the dark or at noon on the equator.
Chiogtr4x July 16th, 2012, 09:43 PM 12 Years with a Boss TU-2 tuner- no performance issues for me, it powers my other pedals, and is a buffer for fuzz or TB pedals before it (not really an isssue as I don't go more than 4-5 pedals on the board)
dog fart July 16th, 2012, 10:08 PM Love my Sonic Research Turbo Tuner for all the reasons listed above. Of course I'm not really knowledgable about other tuners. My last tuner was an old Korg with a needle
Alright at home but useless anywhere else.

I second that, can't go wrong with this one.

That's exactly my experience. It's OK...but sometimes takes a couple of seconds longer to work than I like. I got it as it's smaller than my Korg DT10 but I think I'm going to reconfigure my board so I can have the DT10 back - it just works perfectly every time.
