Intrigued, but not trusting the demos I've seen...any happy users? I saw one mint for $99 and was curious if it's worth checking out.

Any Fulltone Catalyst users?schenkadere July 16th, 2012, 07:21 AM Intrigued, but not trusting the demos I've seen...any happy users? I tried out the Catalyst several times before passing on it - it seemed like the pedal was confused most of the time. Was it a fuzz, overdrive, boost, all, nothing? What would've been really cool, and maybe more apt for what goes on in that pedal, is if Fulltone built the Catalyst in a format similar to the GT-500 or Fulldrive. Fuzzy goodness on one side, overdrive or boost on the other, mix and match to your liking. schenkadere July 16th, 2012, 11:28 AM I think the Catalyst was a primer for what eventually became the Plimsoul. I hear you...I'm not really a fan of these multi-use pedals unless there is a separate footswitch and control. Lance July 16th, 2012, 04:19 PM Skip it. They sound pretty bad. An OCD or Plimsoul is a better choice. schenkadere July 16th, 2012, 06:20 PM Thanks...I think I will. teleup July 21st, 2012, 03:44 PM I have one and can say from experience that it`s an excellent and very usable pedal my main use for it is the boost function..very full and clear and it retains the low end very well dlc1953 July 21st, 2012, 04:01 PM I 've owned it before and will get 1 again, because it can cover so much ground and the Fuzz of it is pretty good if your not a major Fuzz user. And it's not a Plimsoul[have 1] and not OCD[have 1] just does alot thing's pretty well. Low gain with SC's real well I thought! Burnt Gerbil July 21st, 2012, 10:43 PM I'm the odd ball here that actually loves the Catalyst. I use it on the spark mode with the gain and volume both around the 4:00 - 4:30 mark. It gives me a really good boost with just enough fuzz to designate it as actually being a fuzz tone. It works great with single coils (the neck pickup still sounds like a neck pickup, just a little fuzzy), and even retains clarity with my Les Pauls. It seems to be picky with amps though. Marshally amps take it well, my Vox hates it. I don't have a fender to test it with though, but I've heard people say that Fulltone pedals generally do well with a cranked fender. It's not a 'vintage' tone by any means and it won't sound like any specific guitarist, so if that's what you're after, you'll probably less than happy with it. But for $99 I'd give it a go, you can sell it for that amount later if you don't like it. dlc1953 July 21st, 2012, 11:55 PM Yes at those setting's the pedal really wakes up! Kinda different than most pedal's in that regard's. Both Volume and gain need to be pretty passed noon to get a whole lot out of the pedal.I use a Fender Blackface Twin and ya all the Fulltones sound good thru it. schenkadere July 22nd, 2012, 08:07 PM I'm gonna check it out tomorrow if I get a chance...open mind. |
