Hi all,
Recently I have wired up a couple of guitars following the scheme outlined in the thread called "stolen ideas for 5-way strat switch":
http://www.tdpri.com/forum/tele-technical/177457-stolen-ideas-5-way-strat-switch.html
http://www.tdpri.com/forum/attachments/tele-technical/31629d1252556441-stolen-ideas-5-way-strat-switch-modifiedanderton-jpg
Two things I noticed:
Firstly, although the 4th position is supposed to be neck only, the poles on the bridge when tapped make a thunk, not a click/buzz, which suggests they are 'in the circuit' on the -ve line and not +ve, when I understood they should be out of it. I'm quite sure of this as when I pull the bridge phase switch the sound gets thinner and funkier and also there is less noise (some cancelling) in this position.
Secondly, there is a popping sound (cap discharge) when I switch to the 4th.
Any ideas as to what is going on?
I need to lower the cap across the neck connections from 0.0047 to 0.0033 to get a less boomy series connection and more treble back into the 4th position. But aside from that I think its all good and I have made it up as outlined the scheme. Anyone made this scheme and seen the same as me?
Cheers,
DH
