Agile July 14th, 2012, 01:05 PM Hey everyone! I've started a telecaster project and need a little help wiring. I need to wire some hot rails style pickups to a pre-wired control plate. I have a diagram fro seymour duncan but I don't quite get how to read it. The lugs on my switch are all on the same side, and the lugs on the diagram are spread out on two different sides. Am I just reading it incorrectly?
Here are some pictures of everthing. http://imgur.com/9Ms40,sMozI,CfwAI#0

glen smith July 14th, 2012, 05:34 PM You might get a quicker response if you posted this in "Just Pickups".
avf925 July 14th, 2012, 06:01 PM Here's what you want to use - remember the Hot Rails are just Hum buckers. Be sure to wire the RED and WHITE wires together, they go nowhere, just to themselves.
The rest follow the diagrams - let me know if you have any problems.
Agile July 14th, 2012, 09:11 PM Okay, I just need to know where to put the black wires because I'm using a prewired control plate from china. The switch has all 8 lugs on one side instead of 4 on one side and 4 on the other. Could you give a little more detail. This is what I'm dealing with. http://imgur.com/9Ms40,sMozI,CfwAI#0
(Sorry this is my first time soldering pickups.)

This matters not at all. The black wires are ground and should be wrapped around the bare braid shield wire & soldered to the back of the pot or the ground tabs on the switch (you have two, one on each end). Only the green wires (the +, positive) go to the end switch lugs (the two joined together make one lug)

Agile July 17th, 2012, 11:38 PM Any help?
crazydave911 July 17th, 2012, 11:47 PM So is this right?
As I said, you do NOT use the black lead from a rails pickup to active switch lugs(unless they are Seymour Duncan rails pups). They are grounds/negative/-. The green wires are the positive on the pickups (again, unless they are Seymour Duncan rails).
The Seymour Duncan diagram that you linked to has this text in a box on the right side of the switch;
If two pickups sound thin and wimpy when
used together, chances are, they’re out of
phase with each other. If you’re combining
your Seymour Duncan pickup(s) with Fender®
pickup(s) in the same guitar, you’ll need to
reverse the black and green wires on the
Seymour Duncan.
I have highlighted the relevant section for you  And again, unless they are Seymour Duncan rails pups, the green goes to the switch and the black goes to ground

Agile July 17th, 2012, 11:50 PM Alright so just clarification before I get started. Is my diagram correct though (just switch out black wire for green wire)? Like are they going to the right lugs?

Alas, it is not correct. First off, the switch to the right is the one you have and it already has the output wire going to the volume pot, already soldered to the 2 center lugs (I looked at the link where you bought it). Nothing goes on those 2 center lugs except the wire going to the volume pot (the way it is shown on eyeguitar)
The positive/+ wires from the pickups go to the two end lugs on the switch (e.g. one green wire will go to 2 lugs at once, or your middle selector position will do nothing). As the picture on the eyeguitar website shows you, the lugs on each end of the switch are crossed, showing you they must be soldered together.
As a matter of fact, if you click on this page LINK (http://www.eyguitarmusic.com/New-QualityTele-Prewired-Control-PlateAlpha-pots-250KSprague-Orange-capacitor-0022uF_p_1043.html) and scroll down slightly, eyeguitar shows you how to wire that swtch and what wires to use(just don't pay attention to the wire colors on the diagram at the switch. They give written directions and this diagram

I believe they are Seymour Duncan Hot Rail pickups, therefore green and bare go to ground, black to hot, tape off the white and red.
Agile July 18th, 2012, 11:50 AM Alright! Thank you guys so much for all the help! I'm new to this so sorry for all of the questions. You guys are great!
Edit: Double thanks! Wired it all up and it works perfectly! Turns out that the green and bare wires were ground and black was positive. Thanks everyone!
