Hello everyone,

Just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I have been playing guitar for about 10 years and recently decided it was time for a new direction and unloaded an unused Epi LP for a new Mexican Tele. Absolutely love it! Before joining the Army I was heavy into Progressive Metal and really tried to hone my shredding skills. As I've gotten a bit older I've mellowed to an extent and decided I would like to learn some country music (really trying to learn some Brad Paisley right now, how is it I could play Dream Theater all those years ago but this is so tough!) and it's great to have a new challenge. I've been reading several posts since I've picked up my Tele and I can't thank all of you enough for your insight. I look forward to learning as much as I can. Not a big poster, but I enjoy reading.

If you learned like a lot of us did, by learning a few chords, then progressions, then licks, then youbasically learned your favorite genre, metal. Country is a very different critter entirely. You'll get there in the end, it's just a matter of playing, but if you can accidentally learn a little theory along the way, you'll find it's easier to pick up and play other music types.

The jamming I did when I was a kid was with folk guitarists, so that comes easily, but Jimi Hendrix or Chet Atkins, that's work.

Welcome, and let's see that guitar! We like Tele pron.

I was pretty heavy into learning theory, hated playing something and not understanding the why of it. Worked more on modal theory, but I think the country guys really intrigued me, just never gave it the time I should have. Thanks for the warm welcome. Will post a picture a bit later!
