I'm assembling a Tele using a bought neck and a body a friend kindly made for me but having never personally made a Tele (or any) body before i am a little flummoxed by the way the neck is sitting in the neck pocket, or more to the point the size of the neck pocket.

The neck has a width of 55mm
the neck pocket width is 56.5mm

When the neck is placed in you can see that the neck pocket overlaps the edge of the neck by a good few millimeters.

Can this be fixed or should i scrap it and get a fresh body?

By the way, this weighs 4lbs 11 oz, is that considered light or heavy? I'm wanting a light body.

It can be fixed. If your friend has the tools to make the body, he can fix it for you. Glue some thin shims on the sides of the neck cavity, then use the neck to gauge what needs to be removed to get the neck perfectly centered and tight-fitting in the cavity. When that's done, the "underlap" of the cavity can be faired out smooth, again, using the neck as a guide.

I agree. At this point all the hard work is done. A little refining of the neck pocket should be a simple matter.

Thanks kindly for your replies. It'll break his heart for me to go back to him as it took him from February to do this for me (all the while i was thinking of just buying one) so ideally i want to do this myself or even just buy a lighter body. How does 4lb 11oz compare with standard or those considered light?

3-4 lb is what a lot of folks like for a body from what I've seen here.

You might be glad of some neck cavity wiggle room if you need to make a sideways neck adjustment.
