Heading to Austin this weekend from where I'm working in Killeen. I am trying to go see Redd Volkaert at the Continental Club Saturday afternoon. Any Tele guy's from the Austin area have any more suggestions on where to go?

Thanks,
John

Go find where Mandy Marie and the Coolhand Lukes are playing too. Support the TDPRI Austinites. We got a ton of members here that reside in Austin. Go buy Tim Armstrong a beer (it has to be a good one, he was a brewmaster at one time). And tell Redd we miss him here.

I will do just that! Thanks for the advice. Can't wait to see Redd, read an article in Fretboard Journal and watched a few videos on youtube and I am so stoked to hear him play. Gonna be in Killeen for another 3 months so I am looking forward to getting out to Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio. May as well hit Luckenbach and LaGrange while I'm here too!!!

The Standard places ... as I have been told..

Little Long Horn
Elephant Room
Continental Club
and I have seen some great stuff on 6th street..

But, I always had the feeling there were some 'secret' places where the musicians go to watch the other musicians....would like to know as well....
catching Redd at the Continental (I thought it was Sunday afternoons..) has to be great....

He plays with his own band on Saturday afternoons for Happy Hour. Then, he plays as a member of Heybale! on Sundays.

Saxon Pub is another must-visit. Good schedule coming up, too: http://thesaxonpub.com/

I escaped back to Ocean City, Maryland for most of the summer, won't be back in Austin for another month.

Antone's is another place that usually has great music. There are a lot of great dive bars, too. Grab an Austin Chronicle to see who's playing where (their website rocks, too!).

This is why Tim is one of, if not, the best

Try to make it to the Broken Spoke on Lamar. Great old dancehall.

Also Chicken **** Bingo Sundays at Ginny's Little Longhorn. Dale Watson is usually playing. Definitely worth checking out.

OMG I was absolutely blown away last night!! Redd was friggin' amazing and a really nice guy on top of it. What a great little place the Continental Club is. I will definitely be there every Saturday except next time I will park somewhere closer. It seems parking next to the big Episcopal church was not anywhere close to where I thought we should have parked.

Thanks for all the suggestions I will check them all out before I leave. I have a few more months here so it will be a good time trying to hit all these places and maybe meet up with some of the folks here for a beer and some playing tips and advice.

Thanks again everyone...

Another vote for Dale Watson at Ginnies's Little Longhorn.
Dale can hold his own as a player too, and his band
kicks major a**.
Don Don is a brilliant "west coast" style steel player!

+1 for supporting TDPRIers. Also, Dinosaur Jr will be at Mohawk's on 4 October, if you are into them and staying that long.
