New Sticky Suggestion

Hi all,

You guessed it - I have a suggestion for a sticky thread. I think it would benefit everyone on this forum and those who will one day find this forum if there was a sticky post that had a list of what you typically need for a tele build. It would essentially be a bill of materials/shopping list for someone doing their first build.

I'm in the process of my first build right now, and I know that a thread like that would really help me out (most of the questions I have involve types of materials/tools required). This would also benefit those that have been here for a long time because - in theory - new people will read the sticky thread instead of posting a question that's been answered 7381873 times. Another reason why this would be good is because the search system on the site (specifically the way in which it displays results) is not the greatest.

What do you guys think? This could also sort of serve as a FAQ thread. In a way that's what it is, or there could be a completely separate FAQ thread all together. Thoughts?

Cheers.

Fender already did that http://www.fender.com/en-CA/support/articles.php?category=fender-electric-guitars&section=downloads

Lol I guess I should've been more clear. What I meant was more of a list of tools (required and recommended), typical building materials used (type(s) of glue, types of paint, types of finishes) etc. If someone decides to build a guitar without knowing all the parts of a guitar I think they've got bigger problems lol.

I would think it would be difficult to post a list of tools because everyone uses different tools and techniques. Tools are dependant on what folks can afford, storage areas, and what they are comfortable using.

A FAQ section has been up for discussion many times. Nothing ever materializes from it.

Shepherd is right ...... just go to Fender's parts lists for their various guitars.

Building a Telecaster is sort of the inverse of sculpting an elephant out of a block of marble. To sculpt an elephant start with a block of marble and chip away everything that doesn't look like an elephant.

To build a Telecaster add parts until you have a complete guitar.

I think an inquisitive person could read all the challenge build threads for 2009 through 2012 and have very few questions left.

Here are the answers to most questions along with a number of "what not to do" things that may save you some rework.
