Low Output Love

Anyone have low output pickups in their telecaster now?
If so, how do they sound?
Would you recommend a good low output pickup with scooped mid's e.g. John Mayer's?

I've got mine down so far they might as well be. I also have a few super-low output ones, ones I've broken hardy-har.

Seriously, I now like closer to regular specs because they sound more balanced to my ear.

Mine are fairly low output. Both are fezzter pickups, 5.3k (alnico 5 & 42 gauge wire) neck and 6.7k alnico 2+3 bridge. Of these the neck pickup sounds fairly scooped.
I have another fezzter bridge pickup that measures 6k with alnico 5 that's a lot brighter and more scooped sounding, but I didn't like it as much as the other one.

Only guessing here, but getting a scooped sound from a pickup seems to be the result of strong magnets, low coil wind and a tall bobbin.
Any of the winders here care to share their insights?

This has been my experience as well. I find I can get the scoop pretty easily with any vintage spec pickup with a little EQ tweaking when I want it, and with a bit of opposite lock get a fat tone with the same pickups, and that's harder to do if you start already scooped.

Short fat coil=more mids, tall thinner coil=less mids. (42awg)

Tele mags are usually .625 tall. I use .685. The oildale neck is basically a strat pickup in a tele body.

The pickups that I used to make are made specifically for use with tweed circuit amps.
