Here is a quick comparison of these two great pickups. Same guitar, same HD500 patch, same backing track and a different set of pickups. Now I do think I have the Voodoos a little louder against the backing track than the Keystones but this was purely a mix issue. But you can still get an idea of the different flavored pickups.

Thanks, Vinnie. Those are definitely different sounding. Of course, changing the capacitance and resistance load will alter the tone significantly. The easiest way to alter the capacitance load is with guitar cables. If you were to tune the resonance the same for each pickup via cable capacitance, that would be a more level comparison. You need to know the inductance of each pickup, and then choose cable's accordingly. The pot values provide the resistance load, which determines the height of the resonant peak.

vincent - i think yer vid prooves you can twang out some tasty country, but as far as the pups are concerned, ain't no viable test one way or t'other, sir. too many a/b test differences. both pups are getting the job at hand done. imho. ymmv.

Agreed. By no means a strict A/B comparison. A lot of time had passed from the first version to the second version. There will no doubt be variances but, while the way I capture video has changed significantly, the way I capture my audio hasn't changed at all so I thought it would still be close enough for reference.

In the end it was all for fun. I really like both pickups. But, because the guitar was based of the 52' I thought the Voodoo's were a little better suited for this guitar. I still have the Keystones, they will find their way into another guitar for sure.

i hear ya, vincent. if most everything about guitars is subjective, pickups are even more so.

They both sound great to me. I expected to like the Voodoos as I prefer the midbump in teles and his HBs came stock in my McInturff. Good stuff. I did not expect to like the Wildes as much as I do. They seem to get slagged as much as praised around these parts.
Vinnie, thanks for a good video. I think "flavor" is as close as yer gonna get on the net anyway, and I wish everybody would shoot for a relatively clean sound and let the p'ups do the talking. I already know what a chorus sounds like, ya know? We'll take all of those you choose to dish out...

So I followed the link in your signature. The Cavalier Lion/Lioness sound pretty killer and a great price. I'll be adding these to my wishlist. I did not see an option to order as a set. Do ya just have to get each one separately?

Thanks JKjr. I have two guitars with P90s I was thinking of doing the same type thing. A Lollar and Kinman p-90 hx (noiseless). Again more like apple to oranges but maybe interesting, a regular p90 vs a noiseless.
