Using an ABY switcher with overdrive in one signal

So, i have an idea!! i was wondering if anybody else has experience with this. I was wanting to buy an ABY switcher for my vox AC15c1, so i could switch from the top boost channel to the normal channel and vise versa. The Radial Engineering version seems really great, and it has the option to run both signals at the same time, which i think would sound really cool, because sometimes i feel like the Top boost on my vox has too much bite, but the normal doesnt have enough character,so if i combine them, i could dial in some cool stuff!!

My question is, i was thinking i could run one channel through just my overdrive effects, and one channel through everything else, and that would allow me to have a blended clean/dirty signal. anyone tried anything like this? I think it would sound really great.

The Whirlwind ABY is what I've got. It works quietly. I use it more for switching between amps more than I use it for pedals. I've also used it for AB'ing two guitars into one pedalboard/amp.

You might want to check out GigRig. They have some great switching systems!

That can work well. I guess you don't really need the iso transformer if you are going into the same amp.

There are two possible issues. Not all amps have their channels in phase. This is only a problem when combining channels. You can test it by jumping the two channels. Turn up the normal channel and then the top boost channel. If they blend fine then your ok. If your sound gets softer when they are mixed the channels are out of phase and you will probably need a pedal like the Radial with a polarity switch.

This is a poor man's channel switcher. The other downside is this. If you run a really high gain distortion into one channel and then use the A/B box to switch to the clean channel, there will be a fair amount of hiss present because you have only shunted the input to the distortion. It can still work but it's something to be aware of.
