Having had a minor problem lately with my old Boss TR-2, I've scouted around for a low-cost trem to take its place. I don't use the effect much so wasn't about to spend a lot.
I tried the Joyo JT-305, which was OK-ish but not wonderful and still had the volume-drop problem. It also had very poorly-applied graphics, which would have driven me mad as I'm very fussy about that sort of thing. So that went back the same day it was received.
I had been considering the Marshall VT-1 as recommended by fellow UK member jefrs. But I happened to spot this MOEN UL-TR, featuring true bypass and a volume control. Couldn't find much info about it on line - seems it's mainly been marketed in Australia and seemingly the design's based on an old EA model. But at £29.99 (GBP) I decided to give it a punt and I'm actually very pleased.
It isn't perfect - I'd have been happier with side-mounted jack sockets fastened with nuts rather than the top-mounted ones attached to the board. But then that type hasn't yet let me down in other items of equipment. However, otherwise the construction seems solid and the sounds are very good. The depth is a bit limited in the "triangle-wave" mode, but it isn't too choppy in "square-wave" so I'm using that for now with the depth about 1 o'clock on the dial. Most importantly there is no perceived volume drop with the volume control in a middle position and of course the true bypass means no tone-suckage.
Apparently mine was the last one my supplier had in stock at the low price I paid, but they're still available on Amazon and eBay at a slightly higher figure. Worth a look in my view if you're in the market for such a thing.
