I have been wrestling with the chords to Your Love Never Fails on and off for a while. I see Chris Quilala has a capo on the 3rd fret and starts with an Em shape... I get all the basic following chords, however, my high E seems to ring. Any ideas if he played that in an alt. tuning?

I never have any problems with the capo on 3... Try your Em 022033 C x32033 ...
Good luck

We play the Bethel version (in B Flat) and I use a capo to get the intro sounding right. The open D string in the opening 'C' (okay, E Flat) chord really makes that intro for me.

Yes... I agree on the capo 3 and the fingering... I have been muting and avioding the high e at times and that tones down the ringing... thanks for the suggestions.

He also plays that on a Thinline RI w/humbuckers. That makes a big difference in the sound of those big open chords he is playing.

It is in standard tuning, capo 3. I don't see the guitar making a huge difference in the sound. My Nashville with SC's can sound pretty much like that. Judicious use of palm and left hand muting technique will help cop his sound on that intro.

I sometimes allow the bass guitar lines into the mix-in-my-head, I have come to the conclusion that maybe the harmonics produced by the bass and guitar in "their mix" is what I am trying to recreate in my playing... anyway, thinking now (and thanks for the replies) this song is as stated, standard tuning, capo 3, selective string muting for emphasis... this post had a lot of views and not a lot of replies so here are the basic fingerings for anyone who may be looking here for them... [capo 3]
022033 (mute 1st e occasionally)
x32033
320033
x00232
repeat
x32033
022033
x00232
x02030 = the "off chord"
[edit]...or at least as I play them...
