I have an Ibanez RG 370DX that came from the factory with a neck unfinished. So unfinished that I can feel burrs in the maple. The top has rosewood with shark tooth inlay. I would like to sand the back and sides smooth, using progressive grits of sandpaper to get the best possible result AND that my hand moves quickly and smoothly from fret to fret. What should I seal and finish it with?

A quick, thin spray with satin polyurethane from an aerosol after finishing up with 400 grit. What fender does.
