Which Cap With Keystones/4 Way13ontheB July 8th, 2012, 01:54 PM Gonna install some Keystones with 250k pots and a 4 way selector, what is the norm re capacitors for this setup 0.022uf or 0.047uf :?: Thanks. 13ontheB July 8th, 2012, 02:06 PM Can't believe nobody knows. sjtalon July 8th, 2012, 02:39 PM .022 µF is a good choice. Can't believe nobody knows. Well, what goes with what isn't a question. The cap has Jack to do with the pups you are installing. Think of it this way, the cap is a tool the tone pot uses in it's job to darken the tone as you turn the knob. The higher the value of the cap, the darker (less treble) and faster things will get as you go from about 6-10. So .022 is nice if you want a subtle tone change when you use the tone control. If you want the tone to get muddy, use a .047, at 10 things will be pretty bassy. If you want wah wah, .1 go to Rat Shack and buy them all and hook them up with test leads and give them all a whirl if you are not sure how you want things to go. So it's up to the user, what cap is the ticket. Great choice BTW, KS and a 4 way SAAAAAAAAWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET !! 13ontheB July 8th, 2012, 03:22 PM .022 µF is a good choice. Your info is Much Appreciated. Derek Kiernan July 9th, 2012, 12:30 AM Capacitance interacts with inductance, which does vary among pickups. If you were switching to a pickup with twice the inductance but wanted the coloration to land in the same place, the pickup with twice the inductance would need half the capacitance. 22 nF is what I would try with the Keystones. The cap has no effect, even in the higher frequencies, when the tone pot is turned all the way up. You have to go pretty far down into the pot's taper for the capacitor to have sizable effect on the tone. Fool, Esq. July 9th, 2012, 06:08 AM I also used the .022 uF in my Keystone 4-way Tele. gtrguru July 9th, 2012, 08:00 AM .022 in mine but I never use the 4th position. I'll be switching back to a 3 way when I have some free time. |
