1968 Neck p/u - rewind ???

Blown pickup - was in storage is completely mint unused for 40 years while I had a PAF at the neck but doesn't work properly now that I put it back in. Forgot about that I guess.

Not much power compared to the bridge, reading of 1.0 on the ohm-meter, tone control doesn't make much difference to the sound. That's the first sign of a p/u gone south. Bridge p/u is fine at about 6.03 on the meter, sounds amazing.

I'll never sell the guitar anyways so don't care about the eBay value, am putting in an Area T neck while I decide what to do.

Question is where to get the re-wind done and is it worth the effort ?

Lindy fralin does great rewinds. Another option is Curtis Novak. He does great work and would be a touch cheaper than fralin

I actually have a 68 that has the same issue with the bridge pup.

Problem is that I can buy a set of Texas Specials or nocasters in Montreal for between $120 to $150 and am sure the neck will sound as good or better than the original.

Or maybe it went bad back in 1970 and I just thought it was wimped-out.

My concern was that winding, Fedex, Customs Broker charges etc will probably cost more than a new set and may not be as good but will check out Fralin.

One of my friends has put Fralins in 50 guitars...believe it or not - and swears they are the best. Not too good as a player but he has a lot of $$$.

Fralin makes great pickups.

Lindy did a strat pickup for me years ago with the same deal. He unwound it, found the short, spliced it in and rewound with the same wire. It was an especially good sounding one before it broke, and was just as good afterward. Highly recommended.

Monetarily speaking a complete rewind will usually cost a bit more than a new p'up once you factor in shipping etc...but don't be surprised if it comes back from Lindy better than it ever was, and he can tailor it to your needs/wants within reason.
