Guthrie Guitar Works, need infohshight July 6th, 2012, 02:29 PM Just bought a 1975 Guthrie Guitar Works G33 from Craigslist, but I can't find a thing about them on the 'net. Seems reasonably well made, though this one needs some work (which is fine, I'm teaching myself to do that kind of stuff and if I mess it up then I'm only out $40!). I noticed there have been others looking on the web for the maker. Sounds like people are satisfied with the guitar, but the company is an unknown. That skunk stripe is nice. Looks like you got a good $40 orphan. Have fun with it. hshight July 6th, 2012, 07:24 PM Oh, the wood looks good but the frets are crap. Somebody did a bad job. I'm a beginner at repairs, but even my untrained eye thinks it can do better! At least the wood is 37 years old, should sound good once playable. I've been reading too much of preeb's build threads! Ringo July 6th, 2012, 09:39 PM I saw that on Craigslist, the pictures look pretty cool but I've never heard of that brand, but for $40 you can't complain too much I guess. I got a really cheap Ibanez acoustic for my son on Craigslist some years ago for $40, and with a little adjustment to the bridge saddle it plays well and sounds decent. hshight July 7th, 2012, 12:01 AM I wish a bridge adjustment was all, but it's a learning thing.
