What are some examples of compression used with electric guitar during the 1960`s? I know of the obvious Byrds 12-string compression but interested in hearing more compressed guitars in pop and other genres.

Just about everything. Equalizers and compressors were used extensively with not only guitars, but percussion vocals , bass, horns, keys, just about everything and anywhere dring the recording mixing and mastering process. The Beatles, for example, expertly used compression for many of Lennon and Harrison's rythm tracks, as well as other isntruments and vocals. The compressors they used, I forget what they were, but supposedly they were a key to much of the "warm" sound Abbey Roads studio was known for attaining.

There was a fair amount of compression in all those old tube mics, pre's and mixing desks they used back in the day, not to mention tape saturation.

The acoustic guitars on the Buffalo Springfield albums were compressed within an inch of their lives.

Back then it was done differently, tube mics, most all of the record/mix consoles used tubes, and usually tube compressors.
Found this on an interesting recording website and thought it might amaze some of the younger guys .

Interesting read and lots of other cool things on the site also.
Someone else on the forum had posted this site before, but I can't remember who it was.
Enjoy.

Plenty of funky sounding compressed acoustics in this one. If that's not compression then I need to relearn my effects.
