First refinish and rebuild partscaster

About 6 months ago, I bought a pretty beatup Telecaster from a friend. The guitar had the neck off of a 94 MIM, but I am pretty sure the body wasn't original. The owner before my buddy had done a pretty bad refin and relic job. The good thing was that he had also sanded a forearm contour in to the body and put American pickups into it. When I first go the guitar, I tuned it into an Esquire. Here is what she looks like now. You can also see the 'relic' job that was done.

I stripped the body of all the parts and filled some dents.

Now I intend to spend the rest of this fine holiday with a six pack of beer on my back deck, sanding this body down. This will be my first attempt at any kind of finish work on a guitar. I am planing on using ReRanch products and refinishing the guitar in Surf Green. I am also going to de-Esquire the guitar (I bought a Classic 50's Esquire about 4 months ago), and put a humbucker in the neck. This is what I am hoping the guitar will look like when I'm done.

If you're just going to use sandpaper you'd better make it a keg . Seriously though, get some stripper or a heat gun depending on the finish itself and it will go a lot quicker.

Nice project, I'll stay tuned.

From what I can tell by looking at the layers on the back and where the arm contour is, there looks to be at least 4 layers of paint on this. I'm. It looking to sand it down to bare wood, just scuff it up enough so I can shoot some Zinsser shellac over it as then lay some primer down. The light failed on me last night before I could get completely done, so I will probably work on it a bit more this morning before I head to work. Sunday I plan to shoot the shellac and then prime it.

Took the body down to my art studio and hung it up. One quick coat of shellac and a few coats of primer done. Now I am going to let her dry overnight because it is humid as a swamp in here today. I plan on heading over here tomorrow morning, before I head to work, to sand her down. After payday this week, I will be ordering some surf green and clear from ReRanch.
