2 Volume Partscaster Blending Pickups In Series [Archive]

I was wondering if any of you guys could help me, im new here and am building my first partscaster and have been pondering over wiring diagrams.
I found one from phostenix that has my ideal setup, this is it.

The thing is i don't understand how it blend's pickups in series, could any of you explain how or if it does this.

But I want the pots in the first diagram to be dpdt so I can do volume and tone pot bypass and Oop and HOop.
