In the market for a loop pedal. I'm partial to boss, but the boss loop station a bit rough on the wallet. Anybody got any suggestion? Or is BOSS worth the money

What do you want to do with it and is it for practice at home, jamming or gigging? Do you need to switch seamlessly between the loops (that's not possible on a Boss RC-3 or RC-30 at least), or is it for practice only? Do you need multiple concurrent loops?

If you're going for the stompbox sized ones, i'd go (and i did) the digitech Jamman over the boss. The Jamman (at the time not sure if still) had full 44,100 sound quality - where the boss did not.

I've had no problems with mine, other than it reacting oddly with my alctron power brick. Running it with a different power supply fixed that problem (i bought mine from USA so i needed an AUS power supply)

It's easy to use - but worth buying the extension pedal. Stopping playback requires two taps - like a double click on a mouse. That can make it hard to stop in time, but with the extension box you can stop with one tap...

Depends on what you want it for...if you just want to lay down some chord progressions to practice scales against (that's why I wanted one), just scour craig's list till one used comes up and get whatever it is.

I had an RC20XL, then I got a Digitech Jamman solo with external switch thingy. It was too complicated, so I went back to the RC-20XL. SUits my needs.

What did you find complicated about the Jamman? Just curious because that wasn't my experience.

Can't speak for any other loopers though because this is the only one i own - maybe that's why.

I have the jamman stereo. I like the dual input option. Sometimes I leave my bass in the right input and guitar in the left with the right output going to the bass amp and the left (giutar) output to the guitar amp.

It also has seperate rhythm input and level so you can pretty much do away with a mixer if you want to mulit instrument yourself......

I like the flexibility of the digitech, plus the Boss pause between patches is offputting for me. I haven't quite got to the point that it would be an issue but it is where I am heading!

The RC 300 (?) is tempting with the 3 seperate loops per patch but the size, the cost and the pause between patches is offputting....

I really like my RC-3. Only downside is If you download loops from the computer. It only accepts .wav files and you have to transfer to mp3. I can do the transfer but i still can't get the damn things loaded onto the pedal. FWIW, I'm computer stupid.

I've got a Boss RC-2, but I could never figure out how to use it properly.... Maybe the RC-3 is more intuitive.

Do some more research and select wisely!

I would like to gig with it. But I don't have any experience with loop pedals so I would imagine there'd be a breaking in period before I incorporated it into a set. But mainly I'm Interested in laying down little tracks to jam over.

Why would you prefer .mp3 files to the higher-quality .wav files? Space issue? Try lossless.

To the OP, I use the Boss RC-2, which more than suits my needs of (1) practicing solos at home against looped chord changes, (2) learning passages from my iPod (because you can slow them down and keep the same pitch), and (3) looping chords live at a solo gig so I can solo and play leads. Everything else seemed to have too many bells & whistles I'd never use. Plus, you can get 'em pretty cheap on eBay since BOSS is now pushing the RC-3. I do have the external footswitch, though. I am not really familiar with many others, though.
