Lollar Pickupsvintageman07010 July 2nd, 2012, 01:37 PM How are these things? Good for a thick vintage sound? ludashoeless July 2nd, 2012, 01:48 PM Ive never tried them, but I would check out D Allens first brookdalebill July 2nd, 2012, 01:51 PM Lollars are (all) great sounding, consistent pickups. I get my "thick" vintage sound with Rio Grande Muy Grande single coils. My favorite pickups of all are TV Jones. Confusing, huh? WaylonFan76 July 2nd, 2012, 02:13 PM My only first hand experience was with a Nash Tele and the tone was heavenly... Doth July 2nd, 2012, 02:57 PM I have Lollar's in Five T-Styles. Vintage T, Special T, J Street, 5% overwound P90, and Low Wind Imperials. All of them are fabulous. Whoa Tele July 2nd, 2012, 03:01 PM I put a set of Special Ts in a very heavy CV 50s tele. They are a powerful set of pickups with alot of clarity and punch but in a chimey (not sterile ) way if that makes sense. kidmo July 2nd, 2012, 03:12 PM I put a set of Special Ts in a very heavy CV 50s tele. They are a powerful set of pickups with alot of clarity and punch but in a chimey (not sterile ) way if that makes sense. +1,0001 Same thang I got! I said it before and I'll say it again, "Spank, spunk and funk and everything in between. Bark, growl, chime and quack. It's all in there." Hoodster July 2nd, 2012, 07:02 PM The Lollar 52 is as pure a tone as I have ever heard from any guitar. Just ask Tim Lerch. i4I5tN9_Mrc Ramblin Ray July 2nd, 2012, 08:34 PM I really liked the tone of the '52's I had for awhile. My only complaint is that they are very low output. I knew that ahead of time, but still was surprised. kmac July 2nd, 2012, 11:51 PM I have a firebird neck, it's tremendous. gwjensen July 3rd, 2012, 06:41 AM Love the Special T bridge and El Rayo neck bucker in my MIM. Great pups. rocnpop62 July 3rd, 2012, 12:04 PM I have the Vintage T's in my K*LINE and the are awesome. They have a great clarity about them. Good twang in the bridge and the neck p/u is very responsive. Scantron08 July 3rd, 2012, 12:12 PM Had Vintage Ts in my Tele before it got stolen. Amazing tone. Verne Bunsen July 3rd, 2012, 12:47 PM I have a firebird neck, it's tremendous. +1 Firebird neck paired with Jerry Donahue bridge. Heavenly. Teleglide July 3rd, 2012, 01:35 PM Lollars are (all) great sounding, consistent pickups. I get my "thick" vintage sound with Rio Grande Muy Grande single coils. My favorite pickups of all are TV Jones. Confusing, huh? Lollars are great pickups, but I wouldn't describe the ones I've tried as 'thick' sounding. Rich, complex, chimey, lively, but not exactly 'thick'. I agree with brookdalebill that the Rio Grande Muy Grande might be what you're looking for. The Harmonic Design Super 90 is another fat sounding bridge pup. Also the Bill Lawrence L-290. Hoodster July 3rd, 2012, 02:34 PM I really liked the tone of the '52's I had for awhile. My only complaint is that they are very low output. I knew that ahead of time, but still was surprised. I don't find the 52 bridge "very" low output at all (6.7 K. is right in the traditional range). As a matter of fact, it matches up perfectly with the SM-1 mini humbucker in the neck. Ramblin Ray July 3rd, 2012, 05:36 PM Maybe my perception was due to the fact that I went from Suhr's (I think in the 8k range) with A5 magnets to the Lollars. Rob DiStefano July 3rd, 2012, 06:10 PM it's just amazing how many folks want someone else to tell them what they like. i just don't get it. is this a new age millennium thing? or am i just an old fart? or both? anyhoo, jason has been building superb pickups for what seems like forever, he has a solid following of extremely happy customers, is kept quite busy filling pickup orders, and you just might need to read up on what he offers and perhaps ask him some questions on what sound yer after and what pup(s) he would suggest. the rubber will always meet the road with you playing the pups in your guitar and through yer rig. snakestrecher$ July 4th, 2012, 10:45 PM I love lollars and reccomend them to everyone. They just get a great clear full 3d tone that is a blank canvas to anything else. But that's just my meager two cents. There are so many great pickups out there I have a bunch of videos usin the pickups. Check my past threads if you wanna hear a little. blackkeys July 7th, 2012, 04:32 AM I play a combination of Special and Vinatge T Lollars in my 2000 Nocaster. After trying many Boutique Pickups I ended up with Lollar. Amazing Tone :-) cookedbutok July 8th, 2012, 04:18 PM I just put some special T's in my '69 Thinline. They are fatter and warmer, but still chime and sparkle...I think of it as that classic tele sound, refined. JKjr July 11th, 2012, 09:45 AM I just put some special T's in my '69 Thinline. They are fatter and warmer, but still chime and sparkle...I think of it as that classic tele sound, refined. This. No icepick, just fabulous tele tone with a bit of balls. To may this is the default tele set,and with good reason. And all the Lollar sets have this in common: the better your amp is the better they sound. Don't hesitate, just pull the trigger and thank Jason and your friends here at TDPRI. JKjr July 11th, 2012, 09:53 AM I should add...The Specials are the fat ones, and "thick vintage sound" describes them perfectly. |
