Which undercoat?

So I'm just getting ready to start my la cab body, and I've got a question. This will be my first finish job. The idea is a gloss black. I plan to use dupli-color Acrylic lacquer then clear coat with the same. In the event I actually play it enough to show wear, I'd like it to be natural underneath. So can I just use the clear as a base coat or is there some type of clear primer I need to use?

You can use a clear sealer underneath. I use Vinyl Sealer, but you could also use clear shellac, sanding sealer, or WB polyacrylic. Also, you can buff opaque black to a high gloss without clear.

Thanks Colt. I found Vinyl Sealer in an aerosol can, I'll order some up!

So are you saying I shouldn't bother with a clear coat?

When you have an opaque color, You can spray on several coats, wet sand, and buff. Or you can spray one coat of color, and several clear coats.
