Hi all,
I recently bought what was described as a 1997 Fender American Std Tele body in Alder. It has 3 mounting holes for the bridge. However, when I look at pics of all other American Tele bodies they have a bigger hole routed for the neck pickup. So my question is this, if it isn't an AM Std Tele body, what is it? See pic, thanks.

I'm no expert, but it looks like an American Standard body to me

That definitely is an American Standard Tele body. The Micro-tilt is pure Fender and very likely 90's.
They did change their pickup routs at some point, making them big enough to accommodate Humbuckers or anything else inbetween. The same is true of American Standard Strats. They did this so that only one pattern was needed to build a large variation of models. (SSS or HSS or HSH or even HHH will fit on one body)

Only reissues and special models seem to have remained true to the original.

The 2 "Boobies" in the neck pocket rout are also Fender typical. (See the Strat pic)

Interesting. Is that just sloppy workmanship/shortcutting?

I never thought of boobies as sloppy workmanship or short-cutting but that could just be me.....

As I understand it, the "Mickey Mouse" neck pocket route (boobies) is a "feature" Fender uses to increase tolerance for minor variation in neck heel shape/dimensions esp. at the corner radii, thus decreasing the amount of necks which are either unacceptable for production or require rework (costly and undesirable).
They apparently source necks from multiple vendors which is why the increased tolerance is helpful since it would be very difficult (read: costly) to ensure "identical" results from multiple independent production lines.
