Building a 72 custom [Archive] - Telecaster Guitar Forum

Hi, I've been really craving a tele for a while now, in particular a 70s custom style one with a neck humbucker, however I'm by no means loaded and I can't afford to get rid of my beloved jazzmaster as it's my main guitar

So I was thinking of putting one together myself, as I have a friend who did this relatively inexpensively and it turned out pretty well. A mate will do me an old squier body for £25 and I was thinking of looking for a squier neck aswell and some fender PU's and electronics. It is a standard body so I would have to rerout it which may be tricky as I've never done it before..

Has anyone attempted a project like this before and can give me any tips before I go out buying bits?
