Little help, please?
I have a 75 Custom that I've owned for most of its life. When I bought it, I was told it had a Seymour Duncan stack in the bridge position.
I've always been frustrated with some hum from that pickup, depending on the angle that the guitar is in proximity to the amp. Recently, while changing strings, I decided to open her up and take a look to see if I could do some cavity grounding to maybe help this issue. Sure enough, the cavity shielding was not continuous all the way thru, so I added some metal tape to fix that.
While I was doing this, I inadvertently popped a wire from said pickup (at the pot), and quickly determined that with only 2 insulated wires coming from the pickup, it must have ben the one grounded to the pot body...great...
Not so much...
Now, either volume pot shuts off both pickups in the off position, and I get more hum at half-volume than at full. I know this sort of points to phase issues (which I have long-suspected, but lived with, tho it never gave me the indication at half-volume before....having said this, I play almost exclusively on one or the other, almost never both pickups).
I'm ready to rip it all out and start again, but this is, obviously, a very valuable instrument in its almost completely stock condition.
OK...now onto the real meat here...
Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this guitar, or do I need to contact Fender for a hard-copy? They have one for a 72 Custom, but its not at all the same....
I'm a 30 year production professional...none of this is beyond me....I'm just stuck....
Pics of pots and switch attached....any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Chuck
