chillman June 27th, 2012, 02:10 PM I know most of us tele fans also love Les Pauls, so I thought you guys might enjoy my new R8. It's a 2007, totally stock, and I do not plan to mod it. Not yet anyway. This is no case queen/collector. This will be my main gigging guitar for a while and I've got 4 shows in the next week so she'll receive a trial by fire. So far I am very happy with her. Her name is Gloria.
Here's a video I made:

BLAM June 27th, 2012, 02:43 PM ooh yeh! Looks like a very glossy VOS(sy) to me.
Very nice top. I'm not one for OTT flaming and/or too much red. That is just about purrfecht!
spikypaddy June 27th, 2012, 02:45 PM That is gorgeous!
idjster June 27th, 2012, 02:55 PM Beautiful! Nice choice!

wmsimpson June 27th, 2012, 06:58 PM That's a beautiful guitar! Love that grain in the top. Lemon Burst is one of my favorite colors, right after Faded Tobacco.
SteveO June 27th, 2012, 07:03 PM That is probably my favorite combination in the Historic line.Give me a plain top any day.Congrats, real sweet looking.

Thank you. I actually love flametops but I couldn't see myself actually bringing one on stage. They are beautiful as sculpture, but as a tool of a gigging guitarist they are just too purdy.

To go into a bit more detail, VOS is a finish option that Gibson historic offers, which is basically a soft diffuse gloss instead of a mirror polish. It's intended to make the finish look like it has been played a lot, but it is not a "relic." Just a little less than glossy. On VOS guitars all the hardware is ever so slightly patina'd too. And historic Les Pauls are nicknamed R and then the ones place of the year they are based on, so R2 is a '52 reissue, all the way up to R0 for a '60 reissue.
Mark Davis June 28th, 2012, 06:03 PM I have a 2006 R8 VOS and love it. Best guitar I have ever owned.
Congrats on yours.

Bob this tells about the VOS.
The R8 and R9 are the same except the 9 has a flame top and thinner neck the R8's have a huge neck.
mistermullens June 29th, 2012, 11:22 AM That has got to be one of the prettiest guitars I've ever seen!
chillman June 29th, 2012, 07:49 PM I gig with a sleazy rock band so I bought a cheap pickguard and a decal to go on it for those gigs:
