Best MXR compressor??

Ive been flirting with the idea of a compressor for about 6 months now, because i play a lot of slide and id love to smooth it out and give it some sustain, and i figure im never gonna be completely sold on compression just by youtube demos and reviews, so i think im gonna break down and buy one soon. I think if i decide i really like compression, id probably end up getting a keeley, but i dont want to spend that much money on something im not completely sold on, so im thinking of spending about a third of the price on an MXR compressor, because i trust MXR and have heard good things about their compressors.

my question is, which MXR compressor should i look into? theres the standard dyna comp, super comp, vintage dyna comp, etc., and im just really not sure what the difference is! can i just get the standard dyna comp and be happy?

i have the super comp & im not impresssed......lots of distortion added & you need to turn the guitar volume down to get rid of it....again, im no expert since this is only the second comp ive ever owned....i use them at gigs for a clean solo boost more then anything....stuff like stray cats i'll turn it on with a slap back delay & leave the guitar volume 1/2 down & for the solo i'll just have to turn the guitar up......thats pretty much the only use i get out of it...they are usless with distortion.....
ive even threw it in the loop & its no differant.....its back in the front of my amp again now....the one thing i never understood about comps is if you take the level down enough to get rid of the distortion it gives off its like its not even on.....

I have 8 comps including the MXR super and custom. I think the custom is a better comp for the $ in that it will give you a transparent clean comp or a very squishy comp with no attack. My only problem with the custom is that you have to open it up to adjust the attack and tone. That said for the money the super is a good comp.

What are your settings like? I find it hard to believe that the pedal itself is adding distortion, and if you need a boost, why not use an actual booster and use the compressor as it is intended instead?

After trying out a series of other compressors, I got a Dyna Comp and it is exactly what I was looking for. Can't compare it to other models since I have not tried them, but the Dyna Comp is on my board to stay.

Don't have much experience w comp pedals but it sounds great through both my Pathfinder 15R and modded Blues Jr and plays well with my BD-2. About $30.

Sorry, I meant Valve Jr not Blues, of the Epi variety.

The only ones I have played are the vintage '76 reissue and a block logo, script back. The pots dated it as a '78. The two sound identical. I kept the the reissue because it was modded for led, 9v, and true-bypass.

I just received my 1980 dynacomp today, loving it. I haven't noticed much of a "noise problem", though I usually only like my comps on low squish settings.

I have the same issue with my Dyna Comp with higher output pickups...had the same issue with the VS Comp66 and the Marshall ED-1. I just live with it cuz I really like the Dyna Comp otherwise.
