Anybody recording live shows to Garageband?

If you take line out from the PA (with a couple of mics out front) into an A/D converter and hit "record," I assume you'll get something decent if you've got decent acoustics, mix and mic technique. Any tricks/issues I should know about? How much memory am I going to burn up how fast?

I'm not sure why, but I'm thinking there's a time limit on GB...it could 30 minutes or so, but I seem to remember that.

Your converter will need line and mic inputs but it should work. Try it at home first.

As of Garageband 4, the limit was about 5 and a half hours (leaving the tempo of the click-track at 120BPM. Longer if you adjust that.)

That was the version that came with iLife '08. The newer one probably goes even longer, but I haven't found the spec just yet.

Well no, but I do record shows with Cubase and a Tascam interface. I have a mixer with direct outs and I can record up to 14 seprate signals with the interface. I think there is no better way to record live. I can just let it run all night.

I record direct from my PreSonus board, and *then* import to GB, but I have never recorded direct into GB,

Do Direct Outs from the mixer run at a fixed/line level, or do level changes from the mixer reflect in them?
