Who Is Using TC Electronics Pedals? Opinions?

I played thru their delay, reverb and vibrato pedal yesterday. Wow! Easy to use, reasonably priced and sound great. Used a stock Tele with a PRRI ( pretty close to my setup ) and it was like the TC pedals were made with this guitar and amp combo in mind. Anyone out there using these bad boys? Opinions ( pro or con is welcome ).

The guitarist in my other band uses a TC Nova delay I have nothing to bitch about.
So I guess it's OK.
He also has an MXR carbon copy. Both sound good.
Frankly I can't tell when he uses one or the other ...

I have the TC Helicon Voicetone Create pedal (OK not the same brand). Anyway it's not satisfying. Goes to eBay in a couple days

The nova repeater is alot of fun. So much that down the line I may need the nova delay to use presets.

I have the Trinity Reverb, and it is great thus far. no issues and smaller footprint than the previous reverb pedals on my board

Their old Stereo Chorus Flanger is one of the best modulation type pedals ever made, period. As for their new stuff, I had a Nova Delay and really liked the sound of it, I just didn't find it very user friendly. I also had a Hall of Fame reverb, and it sounded nice, just not my personal taste. What a lot of folks do now is use their Nova system for all of their chorus, delays, reverbs, etc, and then a couple dirt pedals and there you go, instant rig! I just love the TC chorus sound, it is a very pristine type of sound.

I have the Hall of Fame reverb and the Flashback delay. I'm very pleased with both of them. The toneprint is useful, I downloaded the Tri-chorus toneprint for the Flashback and so If I want to use a small board it can serve as my delay and my chorus pedal.

^ I didnt know you could use any tone print into any pedal,I assumed you had to go HOF toneprint to HOF pedal !
So I could add say a delay or vibrato toneprint into the HOF?

I been using the flashback delay for a few months now and I really like it. I mostly use the slapback mode live, but I like all the modes.

I've been using TC Electronic effects since 1978. I started w/ the SCF (still on my board) and the also have the BLD, SPE, XII from the 80s that still rock my boards and studio. On my main board lies the SCF, XII, SPE and the Flashback and HOF. I've also had the Nova Mod, Reverb, Repeater, and Dynamic and the Polytune.

I guess their stuff is okay.

No you can only use the tone prints that are made for the specific pedal. They have a toneprint in the Flashback Family that is a Tri-Chorus. They also have some that add vibrato to the delay. I haven't tried using toneprints intended for other pedals, but everything I have read says that this cannot be done.

I just sold off a nova reverb 1 and nova delay ib. They were both very easy to use, sounded great, did not suck tone and were a quality pieces...really no problems to speak of.

The reason, they were too pristine sounding, not harsh per say...but studio recorded sounding instead of live ...so if you are into ambient stuff works great. For me I wanted more of vintage warmth of analogue and tubes using a tele and strat. I'm a basement hack hobbyist with s couple of 50's amps and am not into doing recording or running it through a computer. so now in the hunt for a analog delay.

I have the Hall of Fame reverb and the Flashback delay.

On the positive side: good sounds, good price, easy to adjust controls in good light. Very nicely set up for experimentation (this is where TonePrint comes in handy). If used live in a single setting it's a really good value IMO.

On the negative side:
Difficult to switch settings in poor light or on a board on the floor. The multi-position switch is finicky, because it doesn't have strong detents, and because it's difficult to see the settings in low light. I find it difficult to adjust while it's on the floor - my knees aren't what they used to be. If I wanted to have a single delay or reverb that had multiple settings and whose settings I wanted to change while playing, I'd get something that had footswitchable presets, e.g., the Strymon Timeline delay.

Summary:
They sound wonderful.
If I wanted to use a single setting while playing live, these work very well.
If I wanted something to use in the 'shed or studio to experiment with different sounds, these are great.
Where they fall down, IMO, is if you want to use one and only one pedal of a type AND to use a variety of settings on that pedal in a live performance - I think the TCEs are too difficult to adjust in a live situation. For that use I'd suggest several copies of the pedal type, or else a pedal that has footswitchable presets.

TC User for some time. Nova system is great and very programmable but can be too much.
SCF-1 chorus is great as well as the Corona chorus and of course, the ND-1 Nova Delay and Nova Ib modified Delay units are almost staples now.
Great stuff (except maybe the Mojo overdrive - Uh-Oh, I am gonna get flamed!)

Really?!?!? I haven't seen too many folks here rave about this one. That MojoMojo OD really seemed interesting when it was released. Considering it has LOTS of low end and meant to be very "transparent", it sounding like it should have went over big. It seemed like it was in the Tim/Timmy/Rook Vein. Unfortunately, most reviews seem to say that the low end can get very wooly sounding. Also TC's product demo for it was rather uninspring as well. PGS had a nice demo but nearly everything PGS demo's sounds good. ; )

I have a Nova Delay that I bought when I decided the feature of a DD-7 were nice, but I really needed presets to remember all those options. I really like it - it's going to be my delay for a long time.

I borrowed a buddy's TC Vintage Compressor (out of production) for a few weeks. Really nice-sounding, well-built compressor, but it didn't have the kind of compressor sound I was looking for, which is un-natural Dyna Comp-style squish.

TC be good stuff.

I can definitely agree with the above comment : pristine, studio like quality which is maybe not what you want. It certainly doesn't work with every genre.
For "dirtier" sounds (i.e. less hi-fi sounding) I always found the EHX stuff to be a good candidate.

Yeah that is one complaint about the Nova and not so much about the Ib version (due to the "improved buffer") is that the delays can be "in your face". Takes carefull setting of the mix and tone. I have found using it both versions that rolling off the tone toward analog or tape makes the delays sit better in your mix. Still my favorite until I can roll the coin for a Timeline.

I find that the Flashback Delay works great for making some wet chords, and i like the slap, but I don't only use the "slap" setting for slap, as i get some different sounding slap on the other delay types.. Still trying to figure out what to do with the "reversed" delay sound, and the "dynamic" one. Hard to control these! :)

I use the Nova System and I do like it, has most things that I use, but I still have an external reverb, in fact just got the TC Trinity.. I like me some reverb. Had the NOVA delay and liked that but I like the simplicity of the multi effects units. Hard to be the convenience. I basically use it in the stomp box mode with all the of the effects having 4 presets so my sounds are pretty dialed in. I would probably get another one if this one dies.

Yep - use the Corona Chorus a lot. Looking to get a Spark Boost and a H of F. For delay, I have a Carbon Copy but I'm looking to put the modulation pedals in the effects loop and the CC doesn't play well there. So, maybe I'll grab a Flashback too.

I picked up the Corona stereo chorus pedal about 2 years ago. It has their signature SCF chorus sound, plus the tri-chorus mode. Very hip and cool. Lots of control over how you want it to sound. Plus it doesn't take up a lot of real estate on my pedal board. Well worth it. Cheers.

I had a dark matter distortion but it was so noisy turning on and off rendered it impossible to work with. I returned it because I thought it was faulty. They tested it and said this is how they all are. I understand this problem effects many of their true bypass pedals I've stayed clear of them ever since.

I have the Hall of Fame Reverb, I love it for the option I can have my amp reverb set to one level and then use the Plate for a different flavor.

IT's built well, sounds good and does what I want it to.

I use the flashback, and other than some solo noodling with the looper (which is really handy for riffing out 2 guitar parts sans band when writing stuff) it hasn't come off the space echo TP since I BEAMED IT IN THERE USING MY CELL PHONE!
If that's not cool, I don't know what is.
It's a great platform, and with this TP editor that's coming out, you can design your own sound. So there will be absolutely no reason for you to not like what you're hearing.
The tuner is also great.

I recently went from a Nova Repeater to the Flashback X4, and I am really happy about it. I switched because I wanted presets, three is enough for me, and the toneprint is a lot of fun.

I have an alter ego on the way. I can't wait. Main reason (besides it is amazing) I went with it is because the new Flashback x4 is too big, and the alter ego has a looper function that will work for what I need, which is simple practice tool not necessarily a live looper...

Snowwizard
January 30th, 2013, 10:20 PM
The alter ego is great. Looper on a delay is generally overrated outside of personal practice.

The cool thing about the X4 (and its main selling point to me) is that you can use the looper and still use the delay (can't do that on just about every other delay/looper)

What others would you suggest? I ask because I am in the market for a reverb pedal and I am leaning toward the HOF. I'm looking for the best reverb I can find for under $150.

First. This is just IMHO, but I think you can get great gain pedals (OD, fuzz, dist, etc) for under 150, and defiantly great delays and modulation. Great reverb is harder. If you want a lot of versatility and great sound you'll have to pay more.

I think the HoF (or the Arena and Trinity variants) are a great value because you can get decent sounds and versatility but its a jack of all trades and master of none.

A lot of what I do is reverb heavy so invest more in it, which is why I got rid of the HoF and bought a blue sky reverb.

$150 or under I think the HoF will give you the best sound for versatility value. Pedals like the Sub Decay Spring Theory or the Malekko Spring or the Boss RV-5 for Mod reverb are better sound but don't give you the flexibility.

In my personal opinion i think you'd be better off spending a little more on the Hardwire supernatural or the Mad Professor Silver spring,

But it's a question what you use it for.

I use a Dark Matter and a Spark Booster. I'd highly recommend both pedals. The Darm Matter is a good, Marshall in a Box pedal. It cleans up great and sounds great at low gain. It really is mis-named I think. It's a plexi pedal without a doubt.

The Spark is a great booster. I seems super versatile so far, altough I haven't gigged mine yet.
