RandomUserName June 25th, 2012, 03:06 PM I'm looking to spend under $100. Or as little as possible. I don't want crap, but I don't have to have the best.
Right now I use the sine chorus on my Line6 X3, and I like it, but I can't have chorus and, say, tremolo at the same time, so I want a stand alone chorus pedal.
Suggestions? Thanks!
artdecade June 25th, 2012, 03:11 PM Boss Chorus Ensemble or Super Chorus.
Studioguy57 June 25th, 2012, 03:24 PM Been through a ton of them. Everthing from the $325 TC SC-1 to the inexpensive Joyo.
Best for the money IMO is the TC Corona Chorus. Used for $99 or less; New at $129.
Tri-Chorus or "regular" chorus settings are great. You can also download new settings and store them in "toneprint" (a third setting). Never did this though as the stockers sound great. Quiet and is True-bypass. In subtle settings it is a secet weapon for clean augmentation.
ADinNYC June 25th, 2012, 03:31 PM I've got a Hardwire I'd be willing to give you a good deal on. I just got a wampler nirvana and don't have room for both. Send me a PM if you're interested.

don71 June 25th, 2012, 06:28 PM I picked up a DOD fx65 at a second hand sale last week...20 bucks. I really like it a bunch. There are a couple of three used ones for cheap on the bay, check it out.
I was just looking for a pedal with two outs, so I could use two amps. Surprised me alot.
aunchaki June 25th, 2012, 06:30 PM In a lot of these "recommend me a _____" threads, people just tell you to get what they have. I'm not going to do that. I have a Digitech Multi-Chorus, which is OK, but I'd recommend whichever BOSS chorus meets your needs (stereo/mono, etc...).
RomanS June 25th, 2012, 06:35 PM Electro Harmonix Neo Clone (NOT the Nano Clone!!!)
sacizob June 25th, 2012, 06:40 PM Well, I don't know which is best, but I have an old Ibanez CF7 that I turn the speed all the way up in chorus mode and get a nice Leslie sound.

I agree which is why I recommend the Visual Sound Liquid Chorus over the DOD FX65 that I have.
artdecade June 25th, 2012, 06:51 PM I've tried a bunch and I have never been thrilled with any of them. I suggested the Boss Chorus Ensemble or Super Chorus because they are good pedals, in the right price range, and they are Boss-Durable. I liked the Super Chorus more than the Ensemble, but I think I am in the minority there.
Personally, I have found that I prefer the "+5/-5 cent detuning" of harmonizers as opposed to straight chorus. I guess that makes more of EVH guy, huh?
RandomUserName June 25th, 2012, 06:56 PM Thanks guys! It might take me a while to go through all these recommendations. Im definitely looking for a good price first and foremost as I only really use chorus as a subtle effect, but I use it for EVERYTHING.
czech-one-2 June 25th, 2012, 07:05 PM Electro Harmonix Neo Clone (NOT the Nano Clone!!!)
Hey Roman, does it sound as the same a the big box small clone or is it something different altogether?
tape June 25th, 2012, 07:09 PM EHX Small Clone. I prefer the old-school chassis (http://www.ehx.com/products/small-clone) to the newer Neo Clone in the "nano" chassis, but that's just me. Supposedly the electronics are the same.
I had a Boss Super Chorus (CH-1?) for a long time and didn't care for it.
I've tried out the Hardwire chorus and the TC Electronic Toneprint series chorus, which were both pretty decent. I'd probably have gone with one of those if the Small Clone didn't totally nail what I want.
Not quite an endorsement per se, but... I have the Danelectro Cool Cat tremolo and it's a fantastic pedal. A friend of mine has the Cool Cat series "transparent overdrive" (different from the "overdrive") and also their vibe and they sound really nice as well. They're built like tanks and almost criminally inexpensive. I'd bet that the chorus sounds really good as well.
tlimbert65 June 25th, 2012, 11:04 PM Electro Harmonix Neo Clone (NOT the Nano Clone!!!)
I second that. Nice, simple, analog chorus.
bossking7 June 25th, 2012, 11:14 PM Ibanez CS9, warmest, smoothest analog chorus.
Ecadad June 25th, 2012, 11:25 PM Boss Super Chorus CH-1 is a good basic chorus
RockerDuck June 25th, 2012, 11:43 PM I've used alot more expensive chorus's but I found a Boss Super Chorus for $40 and works as good as any for the couple of songs I use it on.
E5RSY June 26th, 2012, 01:33 AM I have an old Marshall Supervibe unit. Discontinued, but they're out there used. Highly recommended.
armyofbees June 26th, 2012, 01:51 AM My uncle picked up an MXR micro chorus.. I fell in love with his and ordered one for myself.
BluesHound June 26th, 2012, 03:39 AM I've had a number of Chorus's (Chori?) over the years and I don't think you can beat the Boss ones, I think that the old CE-2 is great (and it doesn't really matter where it's made IMO), but the current Ensemble and Super are both very good too (I have the Ensemble as well as my old CE-2). I ended up selling the others I had and kept those 2.
GhostofJohnToad June 26th, 2012, 06:26 AM I'll preface this by saying I personally, for my sound, don't like chorus. However I just sold an Arion SCH-1 that sounded lush and had a lot of range. Nice leslie sound. I had the thing since the late 80s but just never used it. The guy that bought it was happy with it. Sold mine for under $100. If you look you can get them in that range and sometimes half that depending on condition.
uriah1 June 26th, 2012, 07:54 AM +Analogman mini chorus w/mix
RockerDuck June 26th, 2012, 09:58 AM On a side note, don't get a chorus without a volume control. No way I could control the MXR micro playing live. That's why the Boss Super chorus stays on my board.
andrenighthound June 27th, 2012, 07:58 AM I really like chorus but I use it sparingly. Neunaber chroma chorus is one I currently use and like it a lot. I'm surprised no one else mentioned this pedal.
RandomUserName June 27th, 2012, 09:18 AM Hey guys. Thanks for all the helpful information. A lot of these are some really nice pedals, but after reading Tapes post that mention danelectros I look those up and I liked the sound of the FAB chorus, and then found out it's only $14! So I think danelectro wins this round. That might even save me enough money to buy a compressor, or maybe that p90 I'm was thinking about dropping in my les paul.... I need a less expensive hobby.... Haha =)
DannyBigShots June 27th, 2012, 10:03 AM Try to find a used 80's Ibanez CS-9. I love mine
twangjeff June 27th, 2012, 10:14 AM I would try a couple and see what you really prefer, but my knee jerk reactions would be...
1. Ibanez CS-9
2. Voodoo Labs Analog Chorus
3. Boss CH-1 Super Chorus
All of those can be found on the cheap in the used market and would satisfy what you are looking for.
PeterUK June 27th, 2012, 10:21 AM I've had a number of Chorus's (Chori?) over the years and I don't think you can beat the Boss ones, I think that the old CE-2 is great (and it doesn't really matter where it's made IMO), but the current Ensemble and Super are both very good too (I have the Ensemble as well as my old CE-2). I had a Boss CE-2 which I loved and modded it using a Monte Allum kit and.....
.....well, I discovered I like the original CE-2. To be fair, the mod addressed a power supply issue and I've recently started to like it again. Both knobs fully cranked I can get a great Leslie effect.
I therefore recommend the Boss CE-2 - unmodified.
 Peter
Mike Simpson June 27th, 2012, 10:50 AM I am using the Boss CE-2, I had a CE-5 that was stolen about 6 years ago and I like the CE-2 better.
Tanya's June 27th, 2012, 08:57 PM I've been through several and have settled on the Danelectro Cool Cat. . the older model. . simple and rich. .
stuck6 June 27th, 2012, 10:29 PM Earthquaker devices Sea Machine. I love mine.
Rich_S June 27th, 2012, 10:32 PM I've been a Boss CE-2 / CE-3 end for years, adn it's a classic chorus sound, perhaps the classic chorus sound.
However, a couple months ago, I bought beat up Ibanez CS-9 off a forum brother mostly because it was cheap. Last night, I was playing it through a BFVR that I was workingm on, and man, that chorus sounds AWESOME. Big and wide. I need to A/B it with my CE-2 sometime soon, but from memory, I think it's less wobbly than the Boss.
teleman55 June 28th, 2012, 02:08 AM Love my CE2. It's like the benchmark chorus. Got that sound. On my pedalboard every gig. Older than the keyboard player and the backup singer (lol). Got an old DOD FX65 too. It's beat and has issues but can still be used. Has a real spacious wet deep sound compared to the Boss. Like the EH stuff too.

I use to have about a half dozen of various Dano pedals and they are good bang for the buck.
Tee1 June 28th, 2012, 05:15 AM I have a USA DOD FX68 Super Stereo Chorus i bought new, back in the 90s. I believe they were made between '94 & '96. It's a great analog chorus. They're probably cheap 2nd hand, as people seem to go after MIJ Boss pedals instead, for some reason.

+1, I have one somewhere, havent been able to find it since i moved D:
studio1087 June 29th, 2012, 04:55 AM Ibanez CS9, warmest, smoothest analog chorus.
This!
CS9 is as warm and lush as they get.
