Purchased directly from TV Jones a Powertron Plus installed in a Cabronita I built. Mucho amp hum form this pickup. Wired directly to the jack with the bridge ground (vol & tome circuit removed) hum still there. Not the amp as it occurs on all amps tried on Bugera, Mesa Boogie Mark II, Marshall and Flextone II. Remove the pickup install a Gretsch humbucker and the hum goes away. Anyone have any experience with this pickup? Is this normal?

Returned to TV Jones. From what I can tell the pickup was waxed potted as the TV Jones decal is waxed. Pickup installed and the amp hum is greatly reduced. Service communication was a little slow however, once TV Jones received the pickup turnaround was relatively quick. Would have liked the pickup to work out of the box, would have liked quicker responses to my e-mail inquiries. Would have also liked e-mails informing that the pickup was received, and again return shipped. Mixed feelings regarding the product.

But how does it sound now?

Ime running a pickup straight out presents it with a load of a little less than 1Meg.

Pickups rarely like this. When I had 500k vol pot on DeArmond2000s the output was weak and bland.
Fitting a 250k vol pot cured this. It may seem counter-intuitive but the vol pot load resistance forms a LR tone circuit with the pickup inductance (L).
You have to get the pickup load right for the best sound, and that is not straight out.
