Wow, what a great bridge pickup! I've been meaning to try this out for years but never had the right tele to drop it in. I'm sure glad I finally did. Its basically the most balanced/sweet bridge pickup I've tried. I was worried that it might be too hot or too warm due to the Alnico 2 magnets, but it's just right with my alder/maple tele.
The key with an Alnico 2 pickup like this is that you can get it really close to the strings without any issues (unlike Alnico 5 bridge pickups).

... and make it a great combo with mini/p90/hb.

The JD has been my favorite for years. Used to have it in a Fat Tele with 5-way switching and lots of killer tones. Even still, I always thought the JD could do it all on its own and was constantly tempted to turn it into an Esquire.
Recently I finally achieved this result with the Esquire build demo'd here:

Yeah, I think it would be a great Esquire pickup, especially with the Esquire wiring.
I wonder if any other winders out there make a pickup similar to the JD. It seems to me that its a somewhat of a unique design for a telecaster bridge pickup. You don't see too many Alnico 2 tele bridge pickups with similar characteristics to the JD. (Although I could be wrong)

That pup does sound good! I have the same RS Guitarworks Esquire kit in my Esquire. Really excellent circuit.

Big +1...Quine is the reason I got one.
Seymour Duncan has hits and misses but he really hit the nail on the head with the Jerry Donahue.
