Minimalcaster

Hey all!
This is my first post, so I thought I'd start with a little on-going project of mine.
It's current state is the "Minimalcaster".
Alder body - finished in Organoil (strange stuff)
A Maple Tele neck - salvaged from a Squier.
Powered by a Dimarzio Minibucker hidden under the scratch-plate in middle position.

I've never played around with having the pickup so far away from the strings (this is at least 10mm) but so far I like it. It's very bright and airy, kind of what I was after!

I've got a few more tweaks to do, mainly with the scratch plate rubbing the front edge of the trem, causing tuning issues. I might move the pickup to neck position, or swap it for a Dimarzio P90 I have floating around.

I'm also working on a new neck for it - one piece Maple with a flush heel, so I can drop it down into the neck pocket, and hopefully bring the strings down a bit closer to the pickup.

Anyone else ever played around with hidden pickups?

hi Jonnyp,

I like the concept very much :) just the black knob is highly distracting!
would look super with an unmarked neck as well.

I don't have experience with hidden pickups, but I recall a recent thread here where one was addressed. Something about making a Tele look like a Esquire...

Yeah, I agree on the black knob too, but I just had it kicking around.
Should I go white?
Or perhaps Chrome?

An unmarked neck would be really cool, but the new one already has markers :P

If you are like me and rarely use the volume knob....do away with it all together for a minimalcaster.

Unfortunately, I'm on the volume all the time :P
Maybe I could incorporate an invisible touch pad for controlling that :D
