Hi all,

I've just bought a Digitech Whammy 5th Gen and I've decided I need to make up a proper pedalboard. I'm not a professional musician as such but I do have decent amount of pedals - enough to make moving them a pain and powering them, etc.

I have:

Digitech Whammy 5th Gen (9VDC 1300mA, neg)
Line 6 FM-4
Line 6 DL-4
Line 6 DM-4 (this can be replaced with an OCD, due to size)
2x Line 6 expression pedals
EHX Small Stone
EHX Electric Mistress Stereo
Visual Sound H2O
Wilson Ten Spot II
TC Electronic Polytune

I've been plugging them all in via a 12-port powerboard but it's a pain to lug around and sort out all the cords.

I've got my eyes on a Pedaltrain Pro (or a DIY aluminium solution with the same dimensions) along with 2x Voodoo labs Pedal Power 2+, if necessary. I've looked over the power specs for all the pedals and they all seem to be 9VDC, some say regulated and whatnot. The Line 6 pedals say 9VAC 1200mA, so I'm just wondering how I go about this -- should I just take it to someone who understands this stuff? I'd obviously prefer to buy one Pedal Power 2+ but if I have to, I'll get the second unit.. I can sod off the DM-4 and replace it with an OCD or other similar sized OD pedal.

Thoughts? Critiques? Any other ways to go about this? I was just hoping some power expert could say something like you've got 80% of your pedals using the same kind power, or something to that effect so I know that I'm not over-complicating things!

There's no way you'll be able to power all of those digital effects with one (and maybe even two) PP2+'s. The reason being that the digital pedals pull way too many mA. If I we you, I'd look into purge powering options other than the PP2+. They just weren't made for digital

They make a digital Voodoo Labs pedal power, im pretty sure.

Yes they do. But they have only for outlets and are rated at 500mA per outlet. So you'd have to jump a few together to power some of your pedals. And that's crazy considering the price of the power supply for only powering two (maybe three) pedals

How about this ? You can get one VLPP2+ to power your standard pedals. You can mount a power strip under the board and use the adapters for the high current pedals. It might be a little messy, but that's what I do. Infact, alot of people do that. It's the easiest solution to your problem.

Actualy, looking at your list of pedals, you might not even need the PP2+. You could get the ISO 5 for your standard 9v pedals. It's a little cheaper, and you'll still have room for one more pedal. You can power the Small Stone, VS H20, Wilson TS II, and the TC Polytune all on 9V. Do I have that right ? That's only four 9V pedals, so the ISO 5 should work.

I dunno... I think it could work... This is my best guess.

Voodoo Power II
1 OCD (9v)
2 EHX Small Stone (9v)
3 Wilson Ten Spot II (9v ??mA)
4 EHX Electric Mistress Stereo (9v)
5 Line 6 FM-4 (9v High Current)
6 Line 6 DL-4 (9v High Current)
7 Visual Sound H2O (9v 55mA)
8 TC Electronic Polytune (9v ??mA)
Courtesy Outlet: Digitech Whammy 5th Gen (9VDC 1300mA, neg)

Just as long as you follow the mA guidelines, you should be fine. You'd need to do some research to see what each of your pedals runs at...

That looks good. I have a PP2+ but have two Strymon pedals and two TC Electronic Nova series pedals so I power the Nova pedals through the courtesy outlet. It works just fine. The Whammy is definitely going to have to go to the courtesy outlet but the Line6 pedals might use the high mA outlets if they don't exceed the output.

Or he can trade in the Line 6 Line 6 FM-4, DL-4, and the DM-4 and get an M9 and power that through the courtesey outlet on the PP2.

This, definitely. You'll only need one PP2+ in all likelihood.

Hi again,

Thanks for your replies. I've got a couple of pics of my pedals and the power supplies I'm using. If I really had to I'm thinking of powering the standard pedals with that ISO 5 or PP2+ and then just trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the Line 6's. Selling the Line 6's and buying an M13 seems to be the go but I'm just fleshing out what I can do with my current setup.

Would it be possible to power most of my pedals on the PP2+ and then just have the L6's run from their normal power supplies? I'm just thinking if can power the small pedals and the Whammy with the PP2+ and just have to worry about the L6 power, it would be so much easier! :)

I think that will work. You might actualy need the PP2+, I didn't know the EHX EM was 9V. You should be able to power everything except the L6 pedals from the PP2+. You'd even have room for three more pedals. That way you can get a nice OD pedal, maybe a clean boost aswell.
