I enjoy Petrucci as a player, especially in Dream Theater, but David Gilmour owns that solo in more ways than one, IMHO...

Anyone notice how Gilmour doesn't play "fast"... to hit all the same notes... at about the same tempo???

It's feel thing I guess

"That's pretty good, ol' son!
But sit right in that chair right there.
Let me show you how it's done!"

Charlie Daniels.

Ain't no way that's better than the original.

But thanks for that, it gives me a few clues...

So, I have to admit, controlling an amp that's as loud as it has to be to get that tone and those harmonics isn't very easy. Go on, try it, I sure as heck can't...

It does give you a shot at some great tone, but it also pulls away the curtain and makes you very vulnerable...

He pretty much did it note for note until the other guys stepped up. Then it all seemed to get noisy - it doesn't need three guys to do what Gilmour did. It just needs Gilmour.

When Gilmour plays this song, it's like he's opening his heart and the sound just pours out. It's certainly not about technique or virtuosity. It's about emoting through music and making the audience feel something as well. Maybe Comfortably Numb doesn't do it for everyone, but that song gets me every time I hear it.
