The big eighties Prog thread.

It has been widely assumed that with the 1977 punk-rock revolution that Prog rock was over and that it became somewhat of a disgrace to play music that showcased one's chops.

But in the decade that followed Prog was still there although not as obviously as the decade before. And I think it's a good idea to showcase the best of what Prog had to offer in the eighties.

I'll start off with the holy triad: Yes, Genesis and Pink Floyd, who managed to come up with well crafted prog songs in an era where seemingly everybody had written them off as having gone pop.

Yes "Hold on"

Genesis "Dodo/ Lurker"

Pink Floyd "Learning to fly"

And then there was Asia which was a Prog super group having members from ELP, Yes and King Crimson.

People know Chris De Burgh best from his "Lady in red" single but his other hit was a Prog anthem.

And here's the band who took a few pages out of Genesis' Peter Gabriel era and made it their own.

And here's Jean Michel Jarre who brought spectacle to a prog live show.

I've never really been able to get into the 70s King Crimson, however Discipline from 1981 was/is one of my favourite albums by anyone.
