when it's not fun anymore- but it's rare when everyone in the band feels the same way at the same time. More often someone has had enough and someone else feels like they want to keep going.

When the burden of dealing with the guitarist outweighs the awesomeness of gigging (says the bassist).

Depends what you intend to do with your life, afterward.

If you're going to medical school or law school, get after it.

If you'll just join another band in 6 months that is more problematic, maybe you should find a way to stay on.

Judging by the way some of these threads have been going lately, it seems like the correct answer is sometime in your 20s. Let's say, 27?

And then you will be shuttled off to shuffle papers in an office in relative obscurity forever.

Been with the same band for 32 years now, we probably should have hung it up and gotten lives a long time ago, but we still love it, and we still enjoy each others' company immensely, so I think we'll play at least one more time.

I remember once someone blogged about seeing my band , it was something to the effect of, "just so you know, they are a bunch of old guys". It made me laugh, I thought, yeah, any bunch of kids can rock, it's when you're old and achey and have careers and mortgages and families and you're still doing it, that's when you're HARDCORE
