I am "resto-modding" a Silvertone Stratotone 1420L body and need screws for the tailpiece and pickguard & have not been able to find sizes or a source on the interwebs for either.

Anyone know of the sizes off-hand or can point me in the right direction for a source? I am assuming nickel slotted for all.

I tried a couple sizes from the wood screw assortment at the hardware store that didn't pan out due to the fact each of the screws available had a taper to them and seemed like they would remove a fair amount of material creating a larger hole when fully tightened.

For the trapeze tailpiece I tried #3 x 3/8 and #3 x 1/2 phillips brass tapered head. (The screws from the Waverly tuners that are on the guitar fit the tailpiece mounting holes almost perfectly)

For the pickguard nickel slotted oval #4 x 1/4 were tried. (seemed too big more like a #2 sized existing hole)

???/ Why not glue in a small dowel and drill an appropriately sized hole for screws that you can find?

Not necessary, the screws I have are larger than the existing holes so they will secure the parts without backing out presumably. They are also ugly brass.

I would prefer period correct screw sizes in the event I swap to 60s era hardware in the future. That way I can avoid having to fill-up my holes with dowels. Even if they will be covered up, I'll still know they are there.

I have seen the exact same slothead screws as the vintage ones in hardware stores. The only difference is the vintage ones were plated brass and these were unplated. I've used them to mount Kluson tuners since they are less likely to strip than the tiny phillips heads.
