Refinishing a Headstock Repair

Hello again, I hope to metamorphosis a bit from this experiment I held with a refinish (cover up job) I tried on a friends guitar I repaired.

After repairing the broken headstock with tight-bond and clamps and a thick leather string, I tried to blend in a gloss java brown to kinda cover the scars, it looked pretty close color wise and I'm doing it for free so i experimented. It would have been potentially "good enough" but the crap didn't sand well at all. It started getting way uglier so i want to do something else, a little more professional to cover it up.

I figured if it didn't work a larger job was at hand anyway, but I'm not totally sure. I gotta keep the logo on there. I got some ideas about what I may do but I'd appreciate some ideas on alternative approaches from here.

The pics will tell the story really

That thick polyester or whatever they use on those things is a bear to spot repair the finish. In my opinion, the best option is to strip it down to bare wood, and refinish. Or.... spray over it with a solid color.

Thanks man, ya I think I need to strip the whole neck. The thing tweaking my melon is the logo. It looks inlayed but I'm not sure. It my be a sticker that looks like mop. Ya think acetone would wreck it? I dont know what it is, maybe i'll try customer service.

I have to check with my buddy to see if he even cares how it looks. Personally Id want it fixed as good as possible maybe even with an artistic touch of some kind. Im going to take this chance to develop a new skill GDI!

If you want an invisible repair your going to have to refinish the whole neck since it's a clear finish. I reshaped this headstock without replacing the decals but it's easier to do being a solid color. You can get new decals here http://www.best-decals.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13&products_id=232 or here http://www.eyguitarmusic.com/MOP-logo-For-Ibanez-stickerGuitar-Custom_p_474.html
