Go Farther on a project or?....

Hey Guys, So i've posted before about a project ive started fairly recently
I bought an original 1959 Toploader tele body
ive also been fortunate enough to locate a 1958 neck for a real good price.
Now ive been saving for the past few weeks (with the help of selling stuff on ebay) and I am almost able to afford the neck

I was doing some daily ebay lurking and I stumbled upon a early 70's les paul project

Now, lately I have had some odd fixation on les paul's while theyre never been a particular favorite of mine and ahve always preferred my SG.

So i found this project, No breaks, repairs, crack of any kind. les paul body/neck from the early 70's. the best part is its routed for humbuckers rather than mini's!

So I dont know what to do. both the neck and the les paul body/neck are around the same price....
Should I get farther on my tele project and jump on the opportunity to get a genuine 58 neck for that good of a price?!

or should i jump on being able to get a fair priced good condition les paul project!

HELP GUYS! IM A HORRIBLE DECISION MAKER :/

Well....here's my $0.02......70's LP's are a lot easier to find these days still then a 57/58 tele....just sayin!!! :D

^^Agree with marc13. Also, you'll find that although Gibby owners/builders/players are welcome here, after all, this the Telecaster forum!

Having said that, though, Are the tele body and neck in such good shape that all you have to do is bolt 'em up and you're good to go, or are you talking about trying to find tuning machines, pickups, pots, etc. etc. all of the same vintage? If so, not sure the LP guitar might not be an equally good choice, especially if you've got the hots for the LP.

In my mind, assembling a Telecaster from old parts is OK, but it's not like you've uncovered one of the increasingly rare old vintage Teles, ready to rock, or needing only some minor work.

Norlin LPs ( assuming it is that era) don't get the same love that other years of LPs get for quality control reasons. Most of them have a sandwich body in many cases and a shallower carve to them.

I'm a lp fan and I'd go for the tele myself even if it is mixed and matched.

Did you read the original post? He wrote that he's been saving for weeks, and can almost afford the neck. How on earth would he be able to go for both?

The Tele neck.

While older does not always mean better (or more valuable), I just love the sound of anything starting with "fifty..."

Even if the "50's" tele is a frankenstein of several guitars, I would still prefer it to a 70's anything.

I'm likely influenced by my past decision to sell a '59 Jazzmaster (frankenstein of a '59 neck and a different '59 body). I wish I still had that one, but what can you do?

Go for the Tele.

Uhhhh... we probably aren't the best folks to ask about that.:lol:might be just a smidgin of prejudice here.

Or as Aretha said in The Blues Brothers, "Don't you blaspheme in here! Don't you blaspheme in here!"

Those are so close in years, to me it would be way more than a partscaster. It sounds like an either/or and I would definitely buy the neck.

Wait to see if the LP sells and let the buyer know you may be interested in a month. You could end up with both. Unless there are already bids on it then you are going to have a really nice vintage Tele.

If you already have the body I don't see how you could go wrong with getting the neck. If you go for the LP you still have to do something with the tele body. Get the neck is what I would do, but YMMV.

Sorry, it was a tongue-in-cheek comment, apparently lost in translation. Perhaps I should have added LOL or HaHaHa.
However, I tend to view the finances as merely another (though sometimes significant) inconvenience to overcome in the quest for guitarism. If I save for a few weeks for something, then I'd save a few more for the other. I usually value things more the harder I work to aquire them. I've purchased many fine guitars over the years that I couldn't afford, but I got them anyway. LOL

Finish one thing before you start the next. Otherwise, you'll just end up chasing your tail.
