Ok, another over enthused "look what I just got" post. But I've wanted a string bass for 15 years - but they're expensive unless you buy an old Kay in horrible shape, or a cheap chinese bass shaped object... but I stumbled on something that just seemed right on all levels - price and condition: 1966 Kay S-1.
Now I'm sifting through the countless string brands hoping to find that perfect comprimise between Rockabilly (low tension, won't kill your hands) and pizzicato jazz (enough sustain to have some note fundamental and enough tension for decent acoustic volume). Gut is out of the question right now as I'm just starting to learn and they are just too expensive.
