So it has been about 6 months since I got a set of D.Allen pups installed in my 2004 am ser tele. In the bridge I have a Hot Vintage and the neck is a cheetah.
The honeymoon phase is definitely over... and I am still very happy with them... in fact, they ROCK!
When I fist played them, I was a bit concerned that they weren't what I was looking for. Of course this was before actually taking a minute to try to dial in the sound (it's been said on the forum before and it is totally true... you can't get new pups and expect the magic to happen without tweaking your sound set up a bit). Now I am more than happy.
I play rock and after talking with David here on the forum he made his recommendation.
Played my first show with the tele the other night and I got great feedback about my tone.. from only one person... the guitar player of the other band:wink: (which is better than the drunk guy at the end of the bar). I did have a chance during sound check to stand in front and I was very impressed with how my rig sounded. I play most of my distortion through the drive channel of my deluxe VM. The bridge pup is great for riffing and has a tight bottom for some chunking along.
Here's a song from the show so you can get an idea of my rock tone.
