This guy, besides being amazing, has tuners that allow him to bend to an exact pitch and then bend back. I remember seeing a bassist with something like this a while back but I don't know if I even played guitar at that point, so I wasn't too interested.
Anyone have any more info about what kind of tuners he is using?
sacizob June 16th, 2012, 11:07 AM I'd like to see the tabs for playing that.

He has all the tabs for his songs available for purchase on his website. As cool as that is, I can hardly imagine a tab would be useful for learning a song with as many nuances as this... vocal, percussion, unusual effects. It's not something easily written down.
From what I can tell, he has a mic/pickup taped to the top of his guitar which I would think pickups up his percussion, one inside to get his acoustic, and then a third pickup that isolates only the G-E strings for a separate distorted output. On top of that, the tuners.... it's not really possible to play this song without his guitar, IMO.

I believe those are Scrubs banjo tuners.
Mightyaxeman June 16th, 2012, 11:20 AM Hahaha. That should say Scruggs. Dam auto correct.

Do these have the ability to tune to exact pitches in a snap or is he really just really that amazing?

A google search for scruggs was much more useful than scrubs. Thanks =P
Scrapperz June 16th, 2012, 11:25 AM They look like Steinberger Gearless Tuners.

+1, as a banjo picker myself I used to have a couple sets, they are called
D tuners, you can adjust them to what ever you want as I adjusted my b string to drop to A and my G string to Drop to D and back up to G, I think Waylon Jennings used one on his low E to D tune down and back to E..
I still have a set I'm thinking of putting on one of my tele's?

Nick JD June 17th, 2012, 09:29 PM He's just turning the keys until they reach the note. Pretty sure that's tallent, not tools.

boris bubbanov June 18th, 2012, 09:45 AM Fascinating.
I wonder how many shows he can get out of those strings. That's got to be fatiguing to the strings.
The talent is sure there. But I think without the right tuning machine, even he's cooked.
Favaguitars June 18th, 2012, 11:02 AM He is using the instrument beyond its original design. I think that's inspirational. I only wish I could be that creative with anything. He has obvious talent but it's the creativity to think outside traditional guitar playing that's truly impressive.

HAHAHA...YEP?
Colt W. Knight June 21st, 2012, 09:53 PM When Early Scruggs first started writing tunes whe rehe incorporated changing tunings mid songuyen he did so on regular tuners but said it was tough to do it every night, so he de some cam levers to be more precise. However, he thought they were ugly and messed up his pearl inlays, so he covered then with a big metal box, which was really ugly. Then Bill Keith designed what we now . call keith/scruggs tuners. Both schaller and hipshot make detuners now, but most folks will tell ya that keith scruggs tuners are the best.
Nick JD June 22nd, 2012, 01:27 AM Oh. I thought it was talent. So you just turn it and it can't go wrong?
