is it possible to get a separate signal from each string individually. and how would you use it.s there software which can transcribe what you are playing, as you play it ?

you would need a separate pickup for each string, and even then the string next to it would be picked up to some extent.

the only real feasible thing would be to have a pickup with one coil on the left side and one coil on the right so you could have the guitar play in stereo.

Isn't that what a Roland GK pickup does ?

They're called hexaphonic pickups. If you stick that term into Google, you'll find people selling them and the different uses that they get put to.

Most (all?) MIDI guitars use them, so once you have a MIDI signal you've got something that can trigger synths etc. If you want your playing transposed in real-time, a Digitech whammy pedal might be a simpler option?

Didn`t Steve Ripley (of Tractors fame) actually make some guitars that did this for EVH ?
Back in 80`s I think he had a seperate volume or Pan for each string.
