BiggerJohn June 15th, 2012, 07:11 PM Guys,
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't there been a specific effect that gets totally overlooked and not included in all the whiz-bang digital multi-effects processors? Both the rack type and the big stompers. Now you can get this effect from dedicated stompers, but it seems to be missing from the multi-effects units.
What am I talking about? Univibe. The sound of Hendrix and Trower.
Do any of the multi-fx units have vibe?
I'm thinking some of the bigger digital units have enough DSP horsepower and could do it if they had the correct algorithms programmed in. It would probably be part of the chorus/flange/pitch shift/de-tune section.
comments?
aunchaki June 15th, 2012, 08:08 PM The VOX ToneLabs have a decent Uvibe.
Jupiter June 15th, 2012, 08:14 PM Zoom 2.1u has it.
gtrguru June 15th, 2012, 08:23 PM The VOX ToneLabs have a decent Uvibe.
The original Tonelab sounds incredible.
vjf1968 June 16th, 2012, 01:27 AM Line 6 always had in the POD series and the M series.
cband7 June 16th, 2012, 01:54 AM The Korg Pandora PX4D has 2 versions of Univibe available.
.
-=solewheelin June 17th, 2012, 04:14 PM Yeah the Line 6 MM4 does it, so it would be in the M5, M9 and M13..
I like it quite a bit!
Silverface June 17th, 2012, 05:26 PM Every multi-effects unit I've read reviews of or tried has some sort of Uni-Vibe emulator. It seems more prevalent than Leslie effects (probably because it's easier to emulate)
SackvilleDan June 17th, 2012, 05:58 PM My RP200 has it too, and that thing's ancient!
jbmando June 17th, 2012, 06:43 PM I have a Dano Cool Cat vibe which has been said to do a good Univibe impression. I don't know but it sure sounds cool.
iluvchiclets June 17th, 2012, 10:07 PM Hi -
I thought I would add to this discussion, as I am a big fan of modelling pedals and an even bigger fan of univibes!
I think the best vibes out there are dedicated pedals, but if you want one in a modelling unit:
I agree with some of the other posts, the Vox Tonelab (and the Korg AX series, which are based on the Vox products) does a nice uni-vibe. It is a little too subtle for my tastes, though, being that it is not evident enough in the pre-amp position.
Line 6's early attempts at Univibes were not great - the Vibe that is included in their POD XT and X3 is very strange sounding. Not too bad at slower speeds - but if you approach "Machine Gun" territory, it sounds like an old man mumbling, "Wuh, wuh, wuh..." I can't think of any other way to describe it.
The Line 6 HD series Vibes are greatly improved (as are the M5, M9, and M13 vibes) They are lacking a bit of presence, but a great improvement over the XT and X3.
My favourite multi FX vibe is the one included in the Boss units! The GT-6 was a bit flawed at slower speeds, as the width of the vibe sweep changed with different speeds (rate below 49 had a weaker "throb", if I remember correctly?) However, all was corrected with the GT8, GT-10 , and GT100.
Initial batches of the GT-8 had a poor Vibe, but this was corrected with a firmware update that you sent via MIDI into the GT-8. What fun that was!
This wonderful Boss UNI-V is also included in the ME25, the ME-70, and the ME-50.
It is not included in the RT-20 Rotary Pedal, or the V-Wah. These two Boss products both feature early attempts to model a Vibe, and are lacking in many ways.
Anyhow, I got to spout off for a bit...
jnepo1 June 17th, 2012, 11:40 PM A good vibe in an MXR type enclosure, the DryBell vibe is excellent, but pricey. If you are looking for a moderately priced vibe in a small enclosure, the MoFaux is wonderful.
jefrs June 17th, 2012, 11:57 PM Korg Toneworks AX10G defo has U-Vibe
Paul in Colorado June 18th, 2012, 03:37 AM I think my TC G-Major 2 has a vibe setting. We're still getting to know each other...
