jefcon1 June 14th, 2012, 08:12 AM I picked up a used DC (rev. F3) from Craigslist yesterday. I never played one before and since they are so cheap I decided to just buy it and try it rather than demo one in music store.
I bought the DC to use with the Cube 30x I got from craigslist a couple weeks ago. I tried my DOD FX80b with it, but I wanted something with more squish on tap.
I only put in about an hour with it last night. It matches well with a tele and a cube. Also easy to dial in. Quieter than the fx80b at comparable comp levels. I only tried it on the black face and jc models. It does seem to warm the clean tone up more than the fx80b. By warm I mean less clean sounding.
I'm playing my grandmothers funeral with it on Saturday instead of the DOD.

Thanks. Didn't you use and fx80b for a while? Or do I have you confused with another member? If you did, what prompted the switche?

I've only heard the Dyna Comp on demos. I wasn't impressed with it. I'd like to find something with more controls - Level, attack, sustain & a tone knob (like a Boss CS-3 - but better).

Try the Carl Martin Compressor Limiter... very flexible and versatile; I worked my way through quite a few compressors, but nothing'e replaced this since I got it five years ago.
I'm surprised it doesn't get more mention/appreciation around here (or in general).

I did...and I still think the DOD is a great comp. I like the color the DC adds. I like having more squish available. It's a cool, classic tone...I think it's a really fun, simple pedal.

That one would probably interest me. I do use a limiter plugin with a compressor when recording and I find it adds that extra squish and colors the tone exactly the way I like it.

Paul in Colorado June 14th, 2012, 03:58 PM I have an old Dyna-Comp, pre-Dunlop block logo that I like a lot, but have some other comps on the list. A friend has a Carl Martin that he left with me for several months. Maybe I didn't spend enough time with it, but it never really did it for me. I guess I just like simple when it comes to stomp box comps.
studio1087 June 14th, 2012, 08:18 PM Sorry about your Grandma.
Dyna's are great. Simple. Good sound,
Mine is older...has the 1/8" power input. I think I bought it in the early 90's. Late 80's maybe.
BiggerJohn June 15th, 2012, 07:55 PM I bought a used but pristine Boss CS3 on fleabay and did a bunch of mods to it. sounds better now, less hiss, less pinched.
The CS3 is a pretty old design and Boss has had to update the materials used, the original VCA chip is obsolete but the same manufacturer has a better updated part that Boss is using now.

The CS3 will be my next comp venture. Not that the dc isn't cutting it, I'm actually enjoying it to death right not. CS3 pedals come up on Craigslist so often it is just a matter of time be for a grab one.
I am having great fun with the dyna comp though. I never thought a comp could be fun, but these are. It really makes the cube come alive. When I get back in town I can't wait to boost my twin with it!

Take a look at the Wampler Ego.
Jagg76 June 18th, 2012, 10:20 AM I've listened to demos of both the Carl Martin and Ego Compressor and was quite impressed. I would love to be able to try them out before buying. Unfortunately there are no dealers in my area and would have to drive like 16 hrs to the closest dealer. Maybe I'll make a weekend out of it sometime.

jefcon1 June 20th, 2012, 10:40 AM I used the dyna comp for the memorial service this past weekend. It sounded fantastic. I was solo with the tele and the dc really helped keep the chords and single note passages even and smooth. It felt very natural to me. I also appreciated the simplicity of the 2 knobs playing in a new room for the first time with no opportunity for a sound check.
